Delighted to announce that we have hired Paige Hanley as our new Commercial Legal Assistant. Here's a little snapshot about her experience and personal interests:

'I graduated from the University of Law in 2018 with a law degree and I completed the Legal Practice Course in 2019.
I previously worked in a Crewe based Solicitors firm as a Legal Secretary in the family department. I am now a Commercial Legal Assistant at Tebbitts & Co Commercial Solicitors, as well as looking after the administrative side of things I am getting more involved in drafting documents and research in terms of Employment Law and Commercial Contracts. In my spare time I take my dog Buddy for long walks, and I buy him lots of treats! I enjoy spending days out with my family and socialising with friends.'

We have an office at the heart of Crewe town centre in Cheshire, where it serves the various business and commercial legal requirements of the local business community. I was therefore extremely interested to see in February this year that Great British Railways had launched a competition to identify the location, for their new headquarters. The competition is open to towns and cities, excluding London, across England, Scotland, and Wales. Personally, I think that the ideal location for them is Crewe and here is why.

· Connectivity- A fantastic national intersection, Crewe is undoubtedly a well-connected and strategically located base for outward facing and ambitious businesses who value good transport and supply links (rail, road, and air). It has affordable land values and is within one hour travel time of London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester. And of course, it’s a key transport hub for HS2.

· Unrivalled Pedigree- Companies such as Bentley, Barclays, Air Products, UK Fuels & Fujitsu make it an unrivalled centre of innovation, advanced manufacturing, and engineering. As a designated high growth region with over 6 million people living within an hour it makes Crewe a location of choice.

· Culturally Significant- Crewe Town Centre is undergoing significant redevelopment and investment. It will be a place where innovation and creativity combine to define a confident new future. The strategy will facilitate collaboration, help to develop place-based cultural and creative initiatives in arts, heritage, museums, festivals and events. This will ensure that Crewe continues to be a place where people want to live, work, visit and do business.

Many Crewe and Nantwich based businesses along with many members of the public have been donating essential supplies from children’s thermal clothes and foodstuffs to medical kits and tourniquets in aid of the humanitarian emergency in Ukraine organised by the Polish Integration Support Centre based in Wrexham.

The team at Qualkem Chemicals Products are doing a sterling job taking donations in and sorting items into pallets and boxes to be transported to Ukrainian refugee families in Poland.

Tebbitts & Co Commercial Solicitors have donated a box of sleeping bags and metal cups and volunteered at the collection point on Donatable's Member’s action day. It was humbling to see so many local businesses present from all different sectors, from accountants and wealth management companies to marketing consultants and construction firms. We were especially touched when a minibus of school children came and rolled up their sleeves to help and did their bit to support the aid efforts.

Thank you to all at Donatable for spreading the word, rallying Cheshire based businesses to take action together, and thank you to the team at Qualkem for coordinating the collection and transportation of essential supplies to the Polish and Ukrainian border in aid of this terrible humanitarian crisis.

Staff at Tebbitts Commercial Solicitors gave up their creature comforts and slept rough for one night to help to raise funds for the very real societal issue of homelessness as part of the Big CEO Sleepout.

CEO Sleepout is a charity set up to fight homelessness and poverty with the aim to encourage business owners to get involved. These sleepout events have raised over £2.8 million for charities working hard to tackle homelessness in cities across the UK since it was founded in 2013.

Participating in the CEO Sleepout event gave us a humbling insight into the issues surrounding homelessness. Although the experience for one night obviously does not compare to what it’s like to be homeless (the Sleepout event doesn’t pretend to), they do three incredible things:

1. Raise awareness among business leaders, who often want to do more to tackle the structural causes of inequality after taking part;

2. Raise big money which is put to use among charities at the front line of homelessness and poverty in your own city; and

3. Business leaders give up their time, and home comforts, to do something for others – one night of discomfort could change somebody’s life.

Along with another local Cheshire business, Caroline’s Occasions, we have raised £520 towards this good cause. Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported us.
