Zimbabwe received US$2.45 billion in diaspora remittances in 2025. In the first half of 2026, remittances rose by 41.4% to US$1.55 billion, according to figures cited in The Herald.

At the UK-Zimbabwe Business Expo and Zimbabwe Diaspora Summit, Godfrey “Chief” Koti highlighted the potential for diaspora funds to support housing, manufacturing, agriculture, tourism and small businesses.

Living abroad does not mean you have to miss out on opportunities back home. With proper planning and reliable support, you can explore investment opportunities in Zimbabwe while protecting your interests from a distance.

Turning remittances into productive investments requires credible projects, stronger partnerships and accessible financial mechanisms that enable Zimbabweans abroad to participate in the country's economic development.

At Tulia Zimbabwe, we help the diaspora navigate property matters and affairs back home with greater confidence.

Writing The Girl in the Mirror meant finding words for experiences I had carried for a long time. It also deepened my belief that people need room to heal, not only help to get through an immediate crisis.

That belief is part of why Freedom matters to me.

Faith, prayer and community can offer strength to someone rebuilding their confidence and sense of self. But a faith community must also know how to respond when someone says home is unsafe: listen, take them seriously, respect their choices and help them reach specialist support.

We must never use faith to pressure someone to stay in danger or to keep abuse hidden.

In my life and work, I see legal advocacy and faith-based support meeting at this point. Tulia can help someone understand an immigration question. Freedom can offer encouragement and community as they heal. Each has its own role; both should treat the person with dignity.

What would it look like for every faith community to be a place where someone could speak honestly and be met with care?

A little reminder for someone today: God is MORE THAN ABLE! ❤️🙏🏾

You may not have all the answers, but He does. The God who has been faithful before will be faithful again.

Keep believing, keep hoping and dare to dream again! ❤️✨

“But Rumbi, isn’t that common sense?”

I have seen a few comments asking this under my post about Skilled Workers needing sponsorship when applying for ILR.

Yes, it may seem obvious. But remember, people usually come to me when something has gone wrong. Many of my posts are intended to prevent the situations I see in practice.

Some people reach four and a half years and think, “I’ve made it!” Vamwe vanofarisa 😊 They start relaxing because five years is just around the corner. Some even resign shortly before applying, believing they no longer need their employer.

Completing five years does not, by itself, qualify you for ILR under the Skilled Worker route.

Under the current rules, your sponsor must still hold a Skilled Worker licence and confirm that they need you to work for them for the foreseeable future, at the required salary.

If you are dismissed, made redundant, or your sponsor’s licence is revoked shortly before you apply—or while your application is pending—this can affect your eligibility. These are real situations we encounter.

This does not necessarily mean losing the qualifying years you have already built up, but you may need to resolve your sponsorship position before you can qualify.

Please get advice before resigning or making employment changes as you approach ILR. Being close to the finish line is exactly why you need to remain careful.

This post concerns settlement under the Skilled Worker route and the rules currently in force. Any future changes will need to be considered alongside their commencement dates and transitional provisions.
