Are ‘No Deposit’ schemes really a risk-free alternative for landlords and letting agents? 🏠

Deposit replacement schemes are becoming increasingly popular, offering tenants an alternative to paying a traditional tenancy deposit upfront. But for letting agents, they can come with legal and practical risks that shouldn't be overlooked.

From potential breaches of the Tenant Fees Act 2019 to mis-selling concerns and disputes at the end of a tenancy, it's important that agents understand their responsibilities before recommending these products.

With limited case law surrounding these schemes, questions also remain over how they may be treated by the courts.

We had a great time at Lambert Chapman LLP & Fiducia Wealth Management's charity padel tournament, raising money for Prostate Cancer UK and St Helena .

We might not have taken home the trophy, but it was a brilliant day supporting two fantastic charities and a great opportunity to catch up with other local businesses, with a bit of friendly competition along the way!

We’re incredibly lucky to have such an exciting collection of artwork right on our doorstep, and it was a real privilege to be among the first to see it.

We had so much fun at our first official fundraiser for our Charities of the Year, Mid and North East Essex Mind and Suffolk Mind!

Our offices hosted 'Bake a Difference' sales, and 'Wear it Pink or Blue' with colleagues dressing in the colours shared by Mind and Ellisons.

We were also pleased to welcome the Mind team, who spoke to us about the support they provide to people and communities across Essex and Suffolk.

We learnt that Mid and North East Essex Mind and Suffolk Mind are local, independent charities which rely heavily on local fundraising, so every penny we raise will help support the communities where we live and work.

We’re proud to support Mind in Essex and Suffolk as our Charities of the Year, and look forward to fundraising together over the next 12 months!

New research commissioned by Ellisons reveals a generational divide in expectations of workplace support during relationship breakdowns.

Our survey of 349 adults across Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk found that 54% of 35 to 54-year-olds believe employers should offer flexible working arrangements during separation or divorce, compared with just 34% of those aged 55 and over.

Younger generations were also more likely to support paid leave for legal appointments and access to mental health support.

Lisa Dawson, Partner and Head of Family, and Jonathan Insley, Partner and Head of Employment at Ellisons, share their perspectives on what these findings mean for employees and employers, and why understanding and flexibility can make a real difference.

The tragic death of Norfolk GP Hannah Cain, known to her patients as Dr Hannah Terry, has brought renewed attention to domestic abuse and the assumptions that can surround it.

Domestic abuse does not discriminate. It can affect anyone, regardless of their profession, financial circumstances or social background.

For those in successful careers or financially secure households, there can be additional barriers to recognising abuse or seeking support, particularly when it involves coercive control, emotional manipulation or financial abuse.

Our Family Law team explore why there is no ‘typical’ victim of domestic abuse, the barriers people may face and the importance of knowing that confidential advice and support are available.
