Race4Business 2026 – Team Sandersons!

Last week, Sandersons laced up for Race4Business in support of Havens Hospices.

Amy Sturgeon was proud to represent Team Sandersons (also known as Team Sturgeon 😁) alongside her family, who were kindly roped in for the occasion. It was a fantastic team effort, with some great performances and a few personal bests.

The event brought together nearly 400 runners representing businesses from across Essex and London for a 5km run in support of Havens Hospices. With England also playing DR Congo at the World Cup at the same time, the atmosphere and competitive spirit was certainly high!

A big thank you to everyone involved in organising the event, and to all the businesses who took part. It was great to see so many people coming together to support such a worthwhile cause.

We had a lot of fun and will definitely be back next year!

Andrea Salin was recently asked to speak at the Creative Colchester April networking event at Firstsite. The event was organised by Creative Colchester Partnership in collaboration with Colbea for Colchester’s creative and digital community.
Andrea gave an overview of the intellectual property rights (IP) that can be used to support creative output and provided practical tips on how to protect IP.

Is genericide to blame for the trouble at Tupperware? Recent reports suggest that Tupperware could be on the verge of going out of business soon without investment. Once the innovative, market-leader in plastic food storage containers, Tupperware has now become a generic term for sealable plastic food containers - with many consumers not even aware that Tupperware is a brand.

The term genericide refers to the way in which careless and incorrect use of a trade mark can lead to it becoming a generic term for the product that it describes.

This causes it to lose distinctiveness and therefore no longer be registerable. eg HOOVER, ASPIRIN, ESCALATOR, KLEENEX, BAND-AID, YO-YO, THERMOS and WINDSURFER

To avoid genericide always use your trade mark as an adjective rather than a noun or verb.

E.g. HOOVER vacuum cleaner, LEGO toy blocks or OREO cookies
