Check your internet connection, camera, and microphone in advance. Make sure your device is fully charged and the relevant platform is downloaded and updated. A quick trial run with a friend can help avoid last-minute issues. Also, confirm you have the correct meeting link and keep your recruiter’s contact details handy just in case.
Choose a calm space
Find a quiet, well-lit area. Natural light works best, and a clean, neutral background helps keep the focus on you.
Dress the part
Treat it like an in-person interview. Dressing professionally not only creates the right impression but also helps you get into the right mindset.
Prepare your key points
Video interviews can feel slightly more formal, so keep your answers clear and concise. Speak with your recruiter beforehand to understand what the firm is looking for and where you can add the most value.
Minimise distractions
Close unnecessary tabs, silence notifications, and let others around you know you’re unavailable. Staying focused throughout is key.
Body language matters
Look at the camera when speaking, sit upright, and use small gestures like nodding to show engagement. And don’t forget to smile it makes a real difference in how you come across.
