Over the last 15 years, the number of officers donating to the Police Children’s Charity has fallen by more than a third. Today, 27,000 officers make the suggested regular donation of just 35 pence per week.

We have included information about the Police Children's Charity and the services it provides in our latest newsletter, which is now out.

Please do check whether you’re a donor. If not, consider supporting the Police Children’s charity. Most of us won’t miss 35p per week, but would all be grateful for the charity’s support, should the worst happen.

Secondly, visit their website to learn more about their work (or for a refresher if you’re already a donor).

Lastly, from there, you can follow the Police Children’s Charity on Facebook and LinkedIn. Liking and sharing their posts will help them reach more people.

The Police Children’s Charity is a registered Charity which aims to support Police families by helping to ease the financial pressures of bringing up children in the face of life-changing circumstances.

A recent appeal to increase the number of volunteer Health & Safety reps across the force area has been successful. Thanks to everyone who put themselves forward.

Local safety representatives play an important role in supporting our members by promoting safe working practices and helping to ensure that health and safety concerns are addressed at a local level.

Advisor to the Federation’s Exec Team, Craig Robertson, who leads on Health and Safety said: “I would encourage all members to engage positively with their local safety representatives and to make full use of the support, advice and guidance they offer. By working collaboratively, we can continue to raise standards and ensure that staff wellbeing remains a priority.”

An appeal for more Health and Safety Reps to work alongside the Federation has been successful.

Incredibly sad news today from colleagues in Northumbria Police. A young police officer with less than a year's service has died in the line of duty.

Our thoughts go out to PC Jess Turnbull's family, friends and colleagues.

A police officer has tragically died in the line of duty after a collision in Northumberland.

PC Jess Turnbull was responding to a collision which occurred on the A189 Spine Road in Cramlington at about 11.10pm on Monday.

While at the scene, she was outside of a marked police vehicle when she was struck by a black Mercedes CLC which was unconnected to the original incident.

Jess was taken to hospital where yesterday, surrounded by her loved ones, she sadly died.

Jess, who was 19, joined the Force in September last year and worked on the response policing team in Northumberland.

Our thoughts very much remain with her family and those impacted by this devastating loss.

Civil Nuclear Constabulary is taking part in the National Police Wellbeing Survey again this year.

Last year, CNC had one of the highest return rates, and we would encourage at least as many of you to complete the survey again. If we don’t take opportunities like this to share what we feel is working well and where improvements are needed, change is inevitably slower.

The action plan arising from last year’s survey has sought to address work pressure in the areas where it is most challenging, leadership engagement, and better signposting to wellbeing support.

Progress is tracked through regular meetings the Federation participates in, but the real test is whether you have seen a difference. You can share your views on this via the survey, available on the Intranet.

Our Chair, Darren Adams, is raising his racket to raise cash for The Police Treatment Centres this summer.

He's part of a team of Federation reps, Trustees, and supporters who are taking part in a 12-hour padelathon to raise money for the charity.

On Friday 14 August, the group will play padel tennis continuously for twelve hours at St Andrews, the charity’s treatment centre in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. They will play on the centre’s newly opened padel court, built during a recent investment in the charity’s wellbeing facilities.

To make the challenge even more difficult, during time off the court, players will take turns cycling on static bikes. The aim of this side quest is to cover 210 miles – the distance between St Andrews and Castlebrae, the treatment centre in Perthshire, Scotland - as many times as possible.

At the PFNI's conference last week, Chair Liam Kelly, spoke about recent attacks on their officers. Just days later, he has cause to condemn another incident that has put a colleague in hospital.

Our thoughts are with our seriously injured colleague in Northern Ireland today.

News Release: Federation condemns ‘appalling and deliberate attack’ on officer

The attempted murder of a police officer in Downpatrick has been condemned by the Chair of the Police Federation for Northern Ireland Liam Kelly.

Mr Kelly said: “This was an appalling and deliberate attack. I wish to add my condemnation to that already expressed across the community. What happened in Downpatrick was shocking and brutal.

“From what I’ve seen online, this appears to have been a calculated and dangerous driving act with no effort made to slow down or avoid the officer.

"My thoughts, and those of every officer in the PSNI, are with our seriously injured colleague and his loved ones.

“This incident graphically illustrates the risks our officers face as they work to safeguard communities and confront law-breakers.”

We all know that policing isn’t a job you leave at the door. The demands of the role can affect us in ways that go far beyond the physical. That's why it's more important than ever that officers and staff have access to the right support, at the right time.

As part of a holistic approach to welfare, many forces have chaplains working alongside other support services. CNC’s Chaplain is Canon Ian Grainger. We recently met with him to find out more about him and his work.
