🏛️ Nearly 300 years of history…

As Friday arrives, we thought we’d take a moment to look back.

Did you know that SMR Solicitors can trace its roots back to around 1730, making us the oldest solicitors’ firm in Chichester?

Our story begins with Rapers, which was originally established in Chichester and initially practised in North Pallant. In 1829, the firm moved to West Street, where it remained for almost 180 years.

Fast forward to 2001, and Rapers merged with Stone Milward, creating the firm that would become SMR Solicitors.

Today, our history stretches back almost three centuries - but our focus remains firmly on the future.

From our offices in Chichester, Selsey, East Wittering and Bognor Regis, we continue to support individuals, families and businesses across West Sussex with:

It’s one of those things we all know we should do… but often put off.

Making a Will might not be at the top of your to-do list, but it can be one of the most important things you do for the people you care about.

Without a valid Will, the law decides who inherits your money, property and possessions - and the outcome may not be what you would have chosen.

💭 So, ask yourself:

👋 Meet Harry Hyder-Wilson – Chartered Legal Executive!

We’re delighted to welcome Harry Hyder-Wilson to the SMR team, based at our Chichester office.

Harry is a Chartered Legal Executive and Fellow of CILEX, specialising in commercial property. He qualified in March 2026 and brings several years of valuable fee-earning experience across residential and commercial property and development matters.

His experience includes:

🏢 Commercial landlord & tenant matters
🏗️ Property development
🤝 Acquisitions & disposals
🏠 New-build plot sales
📑 Commercial property transactions

Before joining SMR, Harry worked within the Real Estate division of a major national law firm across its Chichester and Brighton offices, where he developed a strong understanding of the legal and commercial challenges faced by landlords, tenants, property owners and developers.

Harry takes a practical, proactive and commercially focused approach, taking the time to understand what his clients are looking to achieve and providing clear, tailored advice throughout the transaction.
