📢 Changes to Inheritance Tax and pensions from April 2027

From 6 April 2027, important changes to Inheritance Tax could affect how unused pension funds are treated when someone dies.
Currently, most pension benefits are generally excluded from the value of an estate for Inheritance Tax purposes. However, from April 2027, unused pension monies will generally be included when
calculating the value of an estate, with certain exemptions applying.

🏠The changes could also have an impact on the Residence Nil Rate Band, potentially meaning more estates could face an Inheritance Tax liability.

With further guidance expected from the Government in the coming months, now is a good time to consider whether your Will and estate planning arrangements remain suitable for your circumstances.

🐾 Happy International Dog Day! 🐾

Today we’re celebrating some of the very important members of the MPG family – our staff’s four-legged friends! 🐶❤️
We thought International Dog Day was the perfect excuse to introduce you to some of the dogs who keep our colleagues company, make us smile! 🐕🐾

We were delighted to see our Director, Caron Rockey, attending the APIL Cymru Wales Regional Group meeting last week at Hugh James in Cardiff.

The event featured an insightful session with Mark Evans, President of the Law Society, who shared his journey and thoughts on the future of the legal profession, including increasing social mobility and the importance of a fully funded Level 7 legal apprenticeship in Wales.

It was a fantastic opportunity to hear from fellow professionals, share ideas and discuss the future of our profession here in Wales.
Thank you to APIL Cymru Wales, and to regional group coordinators Sandeep Gill and Kayleigh Wilding, for organising such an engaging event.✨

🌿 Our First MPG Well-Being Walk! 🚶‍♀️☀️

This week, we took a little time out for very first MPG Well-Being Walk – and what a day we picked! With temperatures reaching 30+ degrees, we made the most of the sunshine with a lovely walk around Queen Alexandra Gardens in Cardiff. 🌳

It was a great opportunity to step away from our desks, get some fresh air, catch up with colleagues and enjoy some time together outside of the office.

And, of course, no well-being walk on a 30+ degree day would be complete without an ice cream! 🍦😎

Back at the office, we enjoyed some sandwiches, snacks and drinks before getting back to work feeling refreshed.

At Martyn Prowel Gartsides Solicitors, we know that looking after our well-being is just as important as looking after our clients. These walks are all about encouraging everyone to move more, connect more and feel better - together!

This is just the beginning! Here’s to making this the first of many! 🌿
