Day 4 of Bangers for Ben… everyone home, one car short.

An early start from Bordeaux for the run to the ferry. Quite a feat for some, with reports that the last reveller had only made it to bed at 3am. The designated drivers had, thankfully, retired much earlier.

Every car was still running as we set off, thanks in no small part to the brilliant AA team. Without their help throughout the rally, several would have struggled to get this far. A huge thank you for keeping us all moving.

Those who left early squeezed in some back roads and avoided the tolls. For the rest of us, the scenery was mainly motorway, with a ferry deadline to concentrate the mind.

Sadly, the Rhino team’s Back to the Future Saab couldn’t quite manage the future journey home and stayed in France.

But this is Bangers4Ben. Another team, who were flying back to Ireland, handed over their car so Rhino could drive back to the UK. Everyone got home, and Rhino actually got an upgrade. They remained in high spirits, with plenty of material for their next social media post.

Four days, some of the best roads we’ve driven, excellent hotels, good food and a very well organised event. A big thank you to everyone who made it happen, and to the other teams for the company and laughs.

Day 3 of Bangers4Ben…

Some days the photos do most of the work.

We left Spain this morning and headed back across the Pyrenees towards Bordeaux, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. The roads through the mountains were absolutely stunning. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip so far.

Then on to Lourdes for a brilliant lunch before getting back on the road for Bordeaux.

We’re now heading back for tonight’s Bangers4Ben awards evening. Fingers crossed someone appearing in today’s photos might be coming home with something. We’ll report back tomorrow…

Day 2 of Bangers4Ben…

From Bordeaux through the Pyrenees and across the Spanish border. Rain first, then sunshine to dry us out, with great steak and chips at Les Dames Moustache along the way.

We had our fingers crossed for Carquay’s Nissan Bluebird after its overheating issues, but it stayed strong and conquered the mountains. The IGA’s car, which we thought would sail through, surprised us with a problem of its own. Hopefully nothing the AA can’t sort tonight.

Now safely at Hotel & Spa Monasterio de Boltaña, early enough for a drink in the gardens.

Day 1 of Bangers4Ben…

A cancelled ferry meant a last-minute change of plan and an arrival into St Malo rather than Caen. From there, Le Mans for the museum and lunch, and we’re now heading south to Bordeaux.

Roofs down, sunshine out and remarkably little mechanical drama… except the Toyota Soarer Japanese import, whose electric windows gave up and briefly turned an already very glass-heavy car into a mobile greenhouse 😂

The Little Boss has finally seen the car…

The Judge and LawJaw were very pleased with themselves.

The Little Boss was less convinced.

It’s nearly time… 👀

Every year, Bangers4ben gives us an excuse to buy a car we probably shouldn’t, transform it into something nobody asked for, make a film about it… and then drive it an unreasonable distance for Ben - Support for Life

And somehow, the reveal film has become almost as important as the rally itself.

This year, The Little Boss, The Judge and LawJaw are back.

The car is finished.
The film is finished.
And remarkably, everyone is still speaking.

But that argument is not going to help you with the customer asking for a refund today.
