In March 2024, we reviewed WarrantyFirst against the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

The headline finding: the product appears to mirror the Act on the surface. But several exclusions and process requirements go below what the statute actually provides.

Excluded: exhaust emissions failures, MOT failures, corrosion, faults from health checks, and poor repairs carried out at any time. All potentially covered under the Consumer Rights Act if the fault existed at point of sale.

Clause 33 removes a right the Consumer Rights Act preserves for dealers: the ability to carry out their own inspection and repair. The policy is more restrictive than the law.

This week's blog post covers the full detail with a link to the published review. Link in the comments.

Following the publication of our original Warrantywise review, we received a request to remove it on the basis that their terms had been updated and some of the clauses we identified had been changed.

We declined to remove the original review and instead reviewed the 2026 terms on their own merits.

The key finding: Warrantywise now states explicitly that their warranty operates on a discretionary basis, with absolute discretion as to whether and how to authorise repairs. Under the Consumer Rights Act, that discretion does not exist. If the legal test is met, a remedy must follow regardless of what a warranty provider chooses to authorise.

The updated terms also introduce a 30-day waiting period before premature failure claims are considered, and widen the previously noted defects exclusion to include MOT advisories and health check flags the consumer may never have seen.

The original review and the 2026 review are both published on the Lawgistics website. The 2026 review is linked in the comments.

🏆 It’s coming home…

Lawgistics has won the Extra Mile Award at the 2026 Car Dealer Power Awards.

This one feels very special.

We first won a Car Dealer Power Award in 2015, then again in 2016 and 2017. Back then, we had around 500 to 600 members and fewer than 20 employees. We knew the service we provided was making a difference because our members regularly told us, but we also knew we needed to raise our profile within the wider motor trade.

So, quite openly, awards became part of our marketing plan. We asked our members to vote if they felt we deserved the recognition, and those wins helped us build credibility across the industry.

This time was different.

We did not campaign, we did not send out voting links and we did not ask anyone to nominate us. We were simply busy doing what we have always done – supporting our members.

That is why this award means so much.

To think that motor trade businesses, completely unprompted, took the time to type in Lawgistics above any other supplier they could have chosen makes us incredibly proud.

Back then, we won the award to gain credibility. This time, our credibility gained us the award.

Today, Lawgistics supports more than 2,500 members and runs legal helplines for three major motor trade federations and two buying groups, giving us reach across more than 5,000 motor trade businesses and locations throughout the UK.

The business has grown, the industry has changed and the problems our members face have become more complex, but our ethos has stayed exactly the same.

People come to us with problems, and our job is to help find solutions. We never want to become part of the problem while trying to solve it. If we can help, we should.

The Extra Mile Award feels particularly fitting because going the extra mile has always been part of who we are.

Thank you to everyone who voted for Lawgistics. Your support and trust mean more to us than you know.

Thank you also to Car Dealer Magazine and its readers for continuing to champion businesses that make a real difference to the motor trade.

Finally, thank you to every member of the Lawgistics team. Every department plays a part in delivering the service our members experience, and this award belongs to every one of you.

With England still chasing football glory, we’re delighted that one thing is definitely coming home… the Extra Mile Award. 🏆⚽

Our legal team reviewed the RAC's warranty plan against the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

The excluded parts list includes: all bodywork, handles and hinges, interior and exterior trim, brightwork, paint, glass including front and rear heated screens, weatherstrips, rubber seals, sheet metal, sunroof guides, seats including all electrical and mechanical components, carpets, seat belts, wiper arms and blades, wheels, tyres, and wheel alignment.

That is a substantial list for a product carrying one of the most trusted brand names in the UK.

A customer reading RAC warranty on their documentation may reasonably assume a level of coverage that the small print does not support. When the claim is declined, the dealer manages the consequences. Not the RAC.

This week's blog post covers the key findings with a link to the full published review. Link in the comments.
