WINTER 2021/2022 RECRUITMENT
Updated - 18th January 2022
SCJ Solicitors is a small but extremely busy firm of solicitors based in Caernarfon on the North Wales coast. We handle property transactions across the country worth millions of pounds every month as well as all other areas of law.
We have vacancies available in our extremely busy firm for a junior legal assistant (Otherwise known as a legal secretary or paralegal). No prior experience of working in a legal firm is required, but the right candidate will demonstrate a particular set of skills that will be required for the position. Full training will be given and the successful candidate also has the option to further qualify as a Licensed Conveyancer or if they have the right prior qualifications, as a Solicitor.
We are an extremely busy firm and the successful applicant will be able to work in a high workload environment and be able to work flexibly around several different projects at once, while completing work efficiently and to a deadline. Your duties will involve assisting the solicitors with managing all aspects of a legal matter including document creation, liaising with other entities like courts and law firms, scheduling further work as well as taking and managing telephone calls from the public and clients alike. You may also from time to time have to sit in our public office and meet and greet the general public who walk into the office if so required. The successful applicant will be able to complete work assigned to them as well as being able to take on other tasks that crop up as they go about their working day and display excellent time and work management. Our work involves the full spectrum of civil law such as purchasing and selling property, divorce, wills, probate, debt recovery, litigation and more, all of which you will be expected to assist a solicitor with.
As you will be expected to handle sensitive financial and legal information concerning our clients, the successful applicant will also be required to provide a basic DBS records check (A check of your criminal record) with no criminal convictions.
The position is also suitable for working from home and upon successful completion of the probationary period a mixture of working from home and the office during the working week may be available. Therefore the successful candidate will be in a location that facilitates travelling to our head office in Caernarfon on a regular basis.
The position is initially available on a 6 month probationary contract which will lead to a permanent position subject to satisfactory appraisals. The position comes with 20 days paid holiday a year, free gym and pool membership at the local gym (COVID-19 restrictions are currently in place that effect this), a degree of flexible working hours (Subject to negotiation and restrictions), and the option to qualify as a licensed conveyancer.
We are a pet friendly employer and provided the pet is friendly, well behaved and sociable to other animals we allow our staff to bring their pets to work with them. To that end the successful candidate will need to be pet friendly, or at the very least be able to ignore a soggy tennis ball being dropped into their lap by one of the office dogs when they are working from the office!
Hours: 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays with 20 days paid holiday. There may be an extremely rare requirement to work outside of these hours if needed.
Contract: Initially 6 months probation leading to permanent, subject to satisfactory appraisals.
Pay: Begins at national living wage during probationary period and is increased upon permanent hire.
Location: Caernarfon and own home
Please note a separate CV and covering letter will be required once you have applied via Facebook. Details on how to send this will be supplied in our application response.
Unsuccessful applicants for our previous recruitment drives are welcome to apply for this position again.
This position is not suitable for students in either full or part time education.
