Tenant Demand Strengthens as Rental Activity Picks Up

Rising tenant demand brings encouraging signs for landlords across England

There is encouraging news for landlords, with tenant demand strengthening across England during the third quarter of 2026.

According to analysis from LegalforLandlords, 31.1% of rental listings were marked as let agreed in Q3, up 1.4 percentage points on the previous quarter. That suggests rental market activity picked up over the summer, offering reassurance to landlords with well-presented, competitively priced properties.

Some areas recorded particularly strong demand. The City of London and West Sussex both saw 43.5% of listings reach let agreed, while Herefordshire and Hertfordshire also performed strongly.

For landlords, the figures underline the continued importance of rental property to tenants across the country. They also highlight how local market knowledge can help owners set the right rent and bring properties to market at the right time.
