Hello Member,

Due to lack of use, our forums on Writers' Dock will close. They will be taken offline on the 16th September.

Our last steadfast forum administrators, Aliqot, Emeraldcut, Jazzmuzz and Poet_perhaps have decided to retire from the site after almost 14 years of volunteering. Our gratitude to them is immense. Thank you, guys. Thanks to all of our past moderators too.

The website will be redeveloped, including up-to-date software for new forums at an as yet undetermined date. Please like this page, or follow us on Twitter for news of this when it comes.

Domain name issues: WRITERSDOCK.COM

We use 123-reg.co.uk as our domain registrar. A recent update to their "default contact details" has resulted in our .com domain being taken offline. We're working to resolve this. In the meantime, you can access our forums at the following URL: http://www.writersdock.co.uk/forum

It might take a while for people to find our forums on this temporary domain, however, at least it is still live for you.

In the meantime, here is an extract of the notice I've received from 123-reg.co.uk.

We recently updated some of our own default contact details in our backend systems. This triggered an update to some domain names which are registered through us and has resulted in an email being sent out to the administrative contact of the domain names concerned, in line with ICANN’s new regulations concerning the validation of contact details.

This email which states that the domain holder has made a change to their contact details is sent from 123-reg and will contain a link incorporating the following domain name: verify-whois.com.

The small number of customers who have received this email must verify this change by the link contained within the email to avoid having domain services suspended.

If you have received this email and have not yet verified your details please click the link as soon as possible to ensure your domain services remains active.

Hello,

Sonny's fixed the forums. Yay! Time will tell us if all the gremlins have gone, but initial tests are all positive.

Writers' Dock is back on its own server now. We are enjoying much better performance for the site, however, it comes at a price: as there are no other webmasters using this server, nobody else is going to tell inform the host if site goes down.

Therefore, if you find that you can't access WD, (or bliRRt.com) please let us know here.

More information on bliRRt: in your admin dashboard of your installation of Wordpress you can access at any time, any of fifty short mix-and-match videos. Each one teaches about a different function of Wordpress.

You cannot get up and started -and creating professional looking websites with Wordpress, any quicker, or easier, anywhere else.

Sonny here. I know it says Writer's Dock on the tin, but it is I who is sharing today!

Apparently, I might have asthma - which has kept me up coughing until now. I'm about to try sleeping again, but I suddenly thought of reaching out to you first.

We have a new group on WD called, "Writing For The Internet and Promoting Oneself Online." This is a group activity with a difference!

You see, as a group, we are each creating new websites. Yes, that's right, each group member has his or her own website. What's more is - as a group, we are helping each other along the way.

Each website is built using Wordpress. This is an open source intuitive piece of blogging software, which is very search engine friendly.

Have I told you about "Writing for the Internet and Promoting Yourself Online"?

It is a new group on Writers' Dock that teaches everything that you need to know about writing for the internet. It also touches on promoting yourself via social networks.

Anyway, it has given birth to another initiative called WRITERSDOCK - Authors and Poets Network. This is a network of authors and poets blogs.

Both 'Writing for the Internet and Promoting Yourself Online" (WIPOO!) and the "WRITERSDOCK - Authors and Poets Network" are very young. In fact there is only one sample Authors and Poets blog available to view and you can see it here: http://sonnysmusings.writersdock.com.

It's been some time, we really should be using this page a bit more!

Well anyway, we have some news. We are starting a new group initiative on WD called "Writing for the Internet and Promoting Oneself Online". For any writer, this subject is not one to be ignored.

Writing for the internet is different than writing for any other media. For a start your prose needs to LOOK attractive as well as have attractive CONTENT. It needs to grab the reader from the very first sentence. The language used needs to be as active and precise as hell, because a visitor will click away from your prose in a blink of an eye IF you fail to engage him or her.

Before you even have a chance to engage with your visitor, you need to attract him or her to your prose - your blog, or article, or website or page. Do you know how?

Do you know how to build up a following? Regular readers who hang on to your every word? Have you got a book that you want to promote? Or is it in the pipeline?

The information that will be shared in this group is rarely found anywhere for free. If you are seriously interested in how to write for the internet, how to get read on the internet, or how to promote yourself on the internet, you need to visit this page and make it known.

People who come aboard now, will get access to this group initiative for free for as long as they remain engaged with the group. The group is starting the end of September. After this time, if somebody wants to sign up, they'll have to pay a subscription.
