This Carers Week, we're proud to support the unpaid carers who play such a vital role in our communities.

Last year for Carers Week, Nicola Spruce, our Welfare Benefits Adviser, shared a practical guide to Carer’s Allowance to help carers better understand the support available to them.

The guide explains:
• Who may be eligible
• What counts towards the 35 hour rule
• Earnings thresholds
• How Carer’s Allowance can affect other benefits
• Important considerations before applying

Providing carers with accessible, transparent information is one small but important way we can help build more carer friendly communities.

This Carers Week, we're proud to support the unpaid carers who play such a vital role in our communities.

At Renaissance Legal, many of our clients are carers. Often they are supporting loved ones with a disability or long term condition. We understand the pressures they face and the support they need.

This year’s Carers Week theme, Building Carer Friendly Communities, highlights the importance of creating communities that better understand, recognise and support carers.

From workplaces and healthcare settings to schools and local services, even small changes can make a meaningful difference to carers and their families.

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing practical guidance and support for carers and families on the subjects of planning for the future, decision making and welfare benefits.

We recently received this lovely feedback from a client following support with their Will and Trust planning, and we are so grateful for the trust placed in our team.

Philip Warford worked closely with the family to understand their circumstances and put the right arrangements in place, helping to bring peace of mind and reassurance after many years of uncertainty.

Supporting families with tailored, specialist advice is at the heart of what we do, and it's always incredibly rewarding to know that clients feel supported throughout the process.

If you would like to discuss your own circumstances, our team is here to help:

On Friday 15th May, members of our team spent the afternoon volunteering at St Ann’s Well Gardens in Hove, helping care for one of the city’s much loved green spaces.

Armed with secateurs, rakes and gardening forks, we cleared five huge bags of brambles, bindweed, stinging nettles and overgrown foliage, all while navigating a chilly afternoon and the occasional May rain shower.

As a Brighton based firm, supporting the local community is something that matters deeply to us. It was a brilliant opportunity to step away from our desks, work together in a different environment and contribute to a space that means so much to local residents.

A huge thank you to the team at St Ann’s Well Gardens and Brighton & Hove City Council for having us.

Behind every great community initiative is a charity making a real difference.

Amaze Sussex supports families of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities across Brighton & Hove and East Sussex.

From providing trusted advice and resources, to amplifying the voices of parent carers and young people, their work helps families feel informed, supported and empowered at every stage.

Their upcoming Story Trail is just one example of how they bring communities together in a creative and inclusive way, helping to raise awareness while celebrating young people’s experiences.

We’re pleased to be supporting this event as one of the sponsors, and to play a small part in the important work Amaze does every day.

Benefits for Autistic Children with ADHD: Understanding Disability Living Allowance.

Many families caring for an autistic child with ADHD are entitled to financial support through Disability Living Allowance (DLA), but the claims process can often feel overwhelming and difficult to navigate.

In this blog, Renaissance Legal's Welfare Benefits Adviser Nicola Spruce explains how DLA works for autistic children under 16 with ADHD, including what support may qualify, how DLA can open the door to other benefits, and practical tips for completing a successful claim. The guide also shares useful examples to help families explain the level of care, supervision and support their child needs day to day.
