Who should you choose as your executor?

Choosing an executor is one of the most important parts of making a Will.

Your executor is the person responsible for carrying out your wishes and dealing with your estate after you pass away.

For many people, this might be:
✔️ A spouse or partner
✔️ An adult child
✔️ A trusted family member
✔️ A close friend

The most important thing is choosing someone you trust to handle things carefully, responsibly, and fairly.

It’s also worth thinking about whether they would feel comfortable taking on the role, as being an executor can sometimes involve a lot of admin and responsibility.

If you’re unsure who to appoint, I’m always happy to talk through your options and help you make the right decision for your circumstances.

When someone passes away, it can be difficult knowing where to start - especially when there’s paperwork involved.

Here are a few important things that are usually helpful to locate early on:

✔️ The Will
✔️ Death certificate
✔️ Bank account information
✔️ Details of property, mortgages or insurance
✔️ Utility bills and key financial paperwork

Every estate is different, and sometimes even finding the right documents can feel overwhelming.

If you’re unsure what’s needed or where to begin, I’m always happy to help guide you through the process.

A little glimpse into my world outside of work…

When I’m not helping clients with Wills and probate matters, you’ll usually find me with my nose in a book somewhere.📖

Reading has always been one of my favourite ways to unwind, which is probably why writing my own book, The Book Lover’s Bucket List, felt so special.

I love that books have a way of bringing comfort, perspective, and connection - something I think we all need from time to time.

So tell me… what’s the best book you’ve read recently? 👇

Can your executor also be a beneficiary?

Yes - absolutely. In fact, it’s very common for people to appoint a spouse, child, family member or close friend as both an executor and a beneficiary in their Will.

Your executor is responsible for administering your estate, carrying out your wishes, and dealing with the practical side of things after you pass away.

The most important thing is choosing someone you trust to handle things carefully and responsibly.

If you’re unsure who to appoint, or whether your current Will still reflects your wishes, I’m always happy to help guide you through your options.

What’s one document you know you should sort… but keep putting off? For lots of people, it’s their Will.

Life gets busy, and it’s easy to keep moving it further down the to-do list. But putting plans in place now can make a huge difference for the people you love later on.

A Will gives clarity, reassurance, and peace of mind - not just for you, but for your family too.

And the good news? It often feels much more manageable once you’ve started the conversation.

If it’s something you’ve been meaning to sort “one day”, this could be your gentle reminder 💜

Whether you’ve been thinking about making a Will, sorting out a Lasting Power of Attorney, or simply getting your affairs a little more organised, you don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

Most people come to me with questions, uncertainties, or something they’ve been meaning to sort “for ages.” That’s completely normal.

My role is to make things feel clearer, calmer, and much less overwhelming - one step at a time.

If you’re ready to start the conversation, I’m here when you need me.

What happens to your bank accounts when you die?

It’s one of those things many people don’t think about until they’re suddenly faced with dealing with it for a loved one.

When someone passes away, their bank accounts are usually frozen until the bank receives the right paperwork. Depending on the circumstances, this might involve a death certificate, the Will, or a Grant of Probate.

Joint accounts are often treated differently and generally pass automatically to the surviving account holder.

Every estate is different, which is why things can sometimes feel confusing or overwhelming - especially during an already difficult time.

If you’re dealing with probate and aren’t sure where to start, I’m here to help explain things clearly and guide you through the process.

Last Friday at my local networking event, I had the exciting opportunity to hand out signed copies of my new book, The Book Lover’s Bucket List ✍️

It was such a lovely moment, and honestly a little surreal, seeing something I’ve worked so hard on out in the world and being shared with others.

I’m incredibly grateful for all the kind words, encouragement, and support I’ve received so far. It really does mean so much! 💜

People sometimes ask why I chose this area of law.

The truth is, I’ve always been drawn to work that helps people in a meaningful way. Behind every Will, Power of Attorney or probate matter is a family, a story, and often a lot of emotion too.

I know these conversations aren’t always easy. They can feel overwhelming, personal, and sometimes a little uncomfortable. But I genuinely love helping people feel more organised, reassured and supported through it all.

For me, it’s never just about documents. It’s about helping people protect the people they love and giving them peace of mind for the future.

And after more than 20 years in this work, that still means a lot to me! 💜
