On 19, December 2011, Chivers Walsh Smith became Chivers Walsh Family Law.
Chivers Walsh Smith was established in 1991 and for many years offered the full range of "high street" law firm services, including criminal law and conveyancing. However, the main emphasis of the firm was throughout on family law, in which the firm had a strong reputation. The partners decided in December 2011 that the firm would specialise exclusively in family law. Against that background, the firm became Chivers Walsh Family Law, to reflect the services it offers.
The lawyers in the firm continued to be the partners, Tony Chaplin, James Welch and Mark Tattersall, and paralegal Julie McGovern. Tony and James continue to specialise in representing adults and children in care (and similar) proceedings. Mark continues to deal primarily with financial issues arising from the breakdown of relationships but also with some children issues. Julie continues to deal mainly with children issues.
