As we enter 2022, we look at the previous year on reflection and set out new goals and objectives.

Some of us have goals such as to do more for myself this year, or prioritise the things that make me happy. Whatever goal you’re aiming for, journaling can help you get there, and it has huge positive benefits for your health.

Journaling has been around for centuries and in this modern day we’ve only just started to fully understand the benefits of it. The BBC even wrote an article on journaling and how you can get started.

Writing is a therapy and getting those thoughts down on paper can make a positive impact on your mental health. It helps you to work through challenges and see things clearly. Try it out, grab your notebook and find some clarity for 2022. Put yourself first.

Feeling the pressure of Christmas? We understand how it feels as it can be a stressful time of year. Especially for those who are vulnerable.

Christmas can affect people in many different ways including, feeling left out of plans, feeling frustrated, or even wanting to celebrate with someone who is struggling. Here’s a few tips from on how to cope with your mental health over the festive period.

🎅🏼 Be generous and kind to yourself. It’s ok to prioritise what’s best for you and think about what you need.

🤶 Plan ahead. Make it easy for yourself whatever your plans are.

🎉 Look after yourself. Set a start and finish time for when you think Christmas should start and end.

As we approach December the days become darker quicker and the cold is starting to creep in. Looking after your mental health all year round is important but during the winter it’s more so. That’s why we’ve put together some tips for you to improve your mental health and make it a priority for the rest of 2021.

1. Stay connected with people. Now we’re out of lockdown it’s important to stay close to people who make you happy. Laugh, talk and smile even on the days you don’t feel like it. Sometimes just being around people feels like your supported.

2. Journal. Writing is so powerful. Even though a lot of people find it difficult writing down how they feel, it can bring a sense of calm and release. Top tip - try writing down your negative feelings of the day on a piece of paper and tearing it up.

3. Learn a new skill. Learning something new can give you confidence and a sense of achievement.

4. The cold isn’t pleasant but getting out in nature, walking or doing any sort of exercise outdoors and breathing in fresh air transforms your day.

Are you appearing in court? Here we have 4 tips to help you through the process.

1. Stay positive. Appearing in court can be overwhelming and scary. However on a positive note, you do not have to prove you are innocent, the prosecution have to prove you are guilty. The more clear evidence your legal representative can present at trial supporting your defence, the less likely prosecutors will be able to prove you are guilty.

2. Seek legal advice. There is a vast amount of information on the internet but nothing can compare to high quality legal advice. An experience criminal solicitor like us, can look at your case and listen to your side of the story then advise you on what is available to you and what steps you need to take.

3. Be informed. They say knowledge is power, but when appearing in court, the more you understand about the whole court process the more you will be able to cope with what can be a stressful experience. You will also be able to work better with your legal representative.

4. Understand the trial process. Good knowledge of the trial process from start to finish will aid your understanding of what is happening when and why.
