A traumatic injury can change someone's life in an instant, but the effects can continue long after the initial accident.

This World Trauma Day, we're recognising the experiences of people living with the consequences of traumatic injuries, as well as the families and healthcare professionals supporting them.

Understanding the wider impact of an injury is an important part of recognising what someone may need during recovery.

Burn injuries can have lasting physical and emotional consequences, particularly when they involve extensive treatment, scarring or long-term rehabilitation.

This National Burn Awareness Day, we're joining the Children's Burns Trust and British Burn Association in raising awareness of burn prevention, the importance of safety and the lifelong impact serious burns can have on individuals and their families.

Burns can occur in workplaces, road traffic accidents, public spaces and other situations. Depending on their severity, they may affect mobility, confidence, employment and independence.

Where a burn injury has been caused by someone else's negligence, there may be grounds to pursue a personal injury claim.

This Baby Loss Awareness Week, we're taking time to remember babies who are no longer with us and recognise the parents, families and loved ones affected by pregnancy and baby loss.

The week brings people together, raises awareness, and creates space for those affected to share their experiences and feel less alone.

We're thinking of everyone for whom this week holds a special significance ๐Ÿ’™

Back injuries can vary enormously. For some people, recovery is relatively straightforward, while a serious spinal injury can have lasting consequences for mobility, work, finances and independence.

They can also arise in very different circumstances, from road collisions and workplace accidents to medical negligence and accidents in public places.

If someone else's negligence caused your injury, legal advice can help you understand your options and what support may be available.

Something going wrong during or after an operation doesn't necessarily mean surgical negligence has occurred.

For a claim to succeed, it generally needs to be shown that the treatment fell below the appropriate standard of care and that this caused avoidable harm.
1. Wrong procedure
The incorrect surgical procedure is carried out.

2. Retained surgical object
An object is unintentionally left inside the body following surgery.

3. Avoidable surgical damage
An organ, nerve or other part of the body is damaged during a procedure due to substandard care.

4. Unreasonable delay
Surgery is delayed, and that delay causes avoidable harm.

5. Poor post-operative care
The care following surgery falls below an appropriate standard and causes further harm.

If you're concerned about treatment you received before, during or after surgery, getting individual advice can help you understand whether further investigation is appropriate.

Being supported through a personal injury claim isn't only about reaching an outcome. It's also about how you're treated during what can be an incredibly difficult period.

This client came to us following a serious road traffic collision which left them with a broken back, other medical problems and PTSD.

This is continued:

โ€œNo amount of money could compensate for having to go through this dreadful time. Losing the car I loved, Christmas with my loved ones, and a holiday with friends. Throughout this time, I knew I could count on Rebecca, who always had โ€˜meโ€™ at heart. Thank you.โ€

We're grateful that they took the time to share these words about the care and support they received from Rebecca and the team ๐Ÿ’™

The consequences of a serious back or spinal cord injury can extend far beyond the initial accident.

Rehabilitation, changes to work, loss of independence, and the need for ongoing care can all affect the injured person and their family. The supplied information identifies injuries including disc damage, nerve damage, soft tissue injuries, paraplegia and tetraplegia among the conditions that may lead someone to seek advice.

That's why a serious injury claim needs to consider both the impact today and, where relevant, what support may be needed in the future.

A medical negligence claim isn't limited to catastrophic or life-changing injuries.

The important questions include whether the care you received fell below an appropriate standard and whether that caused you avoidable harm.

That harm could have affected your health for a relatively short period, required further treatment, caused additional pain or resulted in financial losses.

Not every poor outcome or complication amounts to negligence, which is why the individual circumstances and medical evidence matter.
