TRUE OR FALSE: Can You Claim If You Are Injured In A Tour Bus Or Taxi Accident Abroad?

The answer is yes

To establish whether you have an eligible claim, it is important to investigate:
🚕 Who provided or arranged the transport
📋 How the excursion or journey was booked
⚖️ Who was responsible for the collision
🌍 Which country’s laws and time limits apply

The fact that the accident happened abroad does not automatically prevent you from claiming. However, evidence must show who was at fault and that the collision caused your injury. In this video, Stephen Ireland, Senior Catastrophic Injury Lawyer and Head of Accident Abroad and Foreign Litigation at JF Law Solicitors, explains why tour bus and taxi accident claims require careful investigation.

TRUE OR FALSE: You Can Claim If You Slip On A Wet Cruise Ship Deck

The answer is true, provided the claim is eligible.

If you are injured after slipping on a wet deck while travelling on a cruise ship, you could pursue a claim under the Athens Convention. However, compensation is not automatic. You must be able to prove fault on the part of the cruise ship operator and show that this caused your injury. The usual time limit for bringing an Athens Convention claim is two years, so it is important to seek legal advice as soon as possible.

In this video, Stephen Ireland, Senior Catastrophic Injury Lawyer and Head of Accident Abroad and Foreign Litigation at JF Law Solicitors, explains the key requirements.

£150,000 Offered. More Than £440,000 Secured.

An insurer initially offered our client £150,000 in compensation. Our legal team believed this did not properly reflect the impact of the injuries and continued negotiating on the client’s behalf.
Following the work of Stephen Ireland, and JF Law’s Serious Injury Claims Department, the claim concluded for in excess of £440,000.
This result demonstrates why claimants should obtain specialist legal advice before accepting an insurer’s offer. Every claim is assessed individually, and compensation outcomes will depend on the circumstances and supporting evidence.

TRUE OR FALSE: Travel Insurance Stops You From Making A Personal Injury Claim

The answer is false.

Your travel insurance may cover your foreign hospital bills after an accident abroad, but you can still pursue an eligible personal injury claim.
A successful claim could include:
🏥 The excess paid under your travel insurance policy
🩺 Further medical treatment after returning to the UK
🚕 Transport costs
🧑‍⚕️ Care and assistance
💷 Compensation for the injuries you sustained
📋 Other financial losses caused by the accident

However, compensation is not automatic. The claim must meet the relevant eligibility criteria and there must be a legally responsible party against whom the claim can be pursued. In this video, Stephen Ireland, Senior Catastrophic Injury Lawyer and Head of Accident Abroad and Foreign Litigation at JF Law Solicitors, explains why having travel insurance does not prevent you from seeking compensation.

Package Holiday Accident In Turkey: £1,500 Offered. In Excess Of £55,000 Secured.

Our client was injured while on a package holiday in Turkey and initially received an offer of just £1,500 from the defendant’s insurer. JF Law Solicitors believed this did not properly reflect the extent of the injuries or the losses our client had experienced. The legal team obtained medical records from Turkey and the UK, instructed appropriate experts and investigated the client’s past and future losses, including loss of earnings and care needs. The claim ultimately concluded for in excess of £55,000, more than 36 times the initial offer.

In this video, Stephen Ireland, Senior Catastrophic Injury Lawyer and Head of Accident Abroad and Foreign Litigation at JF Law Solicitors, explains why specialist evidence and a detailed assessment of every loss can significantly affect the value of a package holiday accident claim. Every claim is assessed individually, and compensation outcomes depend on the circumstances and supporting evidence.

Injured By Falling Luggage On A Plane?

Luggage falling from an overhead compartment can cause serious head, neck or shoulder injuries. Under the Montreal Convention, an airline claim could be possible where a passenger is injured by an unexpected or unusual event that is not part of the aircraft’s normal operation. However, a claim is not automatic. The incident must meet the legal definition of an accident and must have caused a bodily injury.

In this video, Stephen Ireland, Senior Catastrophic Injury Lawyer and Head of Accident Abroad and Foreign Litigation at JF Law Solicitors, explains how the Montreal Convention can apply when falling luggage injures a passenger on board an aircraft.
