Law Centre NI has responded to TEO's draft Framework for Race Relations.

While we welcome some positive proposals, we have serious concerns about the Framework's direction, including the shift away from a racial equality approach and the absence of a clear commitment to legislative reform.

We were pleased to have our Community Engagement Officer, Niamh, attend the National Migrant Inclusion Conference in Dublin. We would like to thank Social Change Initiative and the Immigrant Council of Ireland for the invite.

The conference brought together policymakers, researchers, public bodies, civil society organisations, and migrant communities to discuss the future of integration, participation, and equality across the Island of Ireland.

Keynote speaker , Uachtarán na hÉireann / President of Ireland Catherine Connolly, highlighted the importance of implementing the national action plan against racism, and emphasised the need to resist the normalisation of conflict while upholding international law and UN principles. "I think we have the duty never to accept that inevitability or the normalisation of war, and to speak out at every opportunity that we have to say no, we will not do this in our name, and we will stand up for international law with the United Nations and for the UN structures that were set up and that were wrought out of the horror of the First and the Second World War, as something we can never forget, which, in not forgetting, we all, we also have to take action"

We were delighted to attend this event, building opportunities to learn, collaborate, and contribute to conversations about building more inclusive and welcoming communities for everyone.

NEW translatable information resource:

This new resource explains what actions migrant parents MUST take to regularise their child's status, including for babies born to parents:
👉during asylum process
👉with refugee status/humanitarian protection (permission in line vs refugee status)
👉permission under Ukraine Scheme
👉permission under Afghan Scheme
AND citizenship rights

Being born in the UK doesn’t automatically make your child a British citizen. Only children born to British citizen parents, or parents with indefinite leave to remain or EU settled status, are British by birth.
