Pathfinder is being rolled out across the country in March 2026. It is the new procedural approach to be adopted in Private children proceedings.

With many cases suffering significant delays in the Family Courts, Pathfinder is the Family Court’s latest solution. The intention is to short circuit proceedings, dispensing with the FHDRA process and effectively leapfrogging to the DRA with the benefit of a child impact report, which addresses the welfare checklist.

The intention is to put the real issues in the case – including domestic abuse – front and centre, and to undertake more comprehensive risk analysis prior to parents entering the Court room.

There is to be more focus on early stage multi-agency intervention, where relevant and necessary and further consideration of the child’s voice.

Pathfinder will be applicable to new cases only, so if your matter is already in proceedings, the procedural change won’t be applied retrospectively.
