In a booming market, everyone wants their brand to own the space.

Look at somewhere like Dubai, full of people investing, building businesses, and wanting to be the name everyone knows.

The UK might be tougher right now, but the goal is the same everywhere: build a brand people recognise.

Here's the part that gets missed though. A brand is only something you truly own if it's protected. Build all the recognition you like, but if you don't legally own the name, someone else can step in on it.

Owning your market starts with owning your brand. Not sure yours is protected?

Trademarks are on the rise, and that's creating more disputes than ever.

More objections. More infringements. More cancellation requests. As more businesses register and protect their brands, the whole space is getting busier and more competitive.

Big companies handle this easily, they have legal teams for exactly this. Smaller businesses usually don't, which can leave them exposed without realising it.

The truth is, protecting your brand shouldn't be something only the big players can afford to do properly.

More objections. More infringements. More cancellation requests.

Everyone is more active, and more protective, than ever.

Big brands have whole legal teams for this. Most people building a brand, whether it's a business or their own name, don't.

That's the gap that leaves them exposed. Protecting your brand shouldn't be something only big companies can afford.

A darts champion has just applied to trademark his own face. It's not as strange as it sounds.

Luke Littler made the application to stop AI generated fakes using his likeness to sell counterfeit products. And he's not alone, more and more public figures are doing the same as AI makes copying someone's image easier than ever.

The catch? Even the experts say a face trademark won't stop everything. It only covers certain types of products, so it's more of a deterrent than a complete shield.

It's a sign of how fast things are changing, and how the law is racing to keep up with AI.

Got your trademark registered? Great, but don't assume that's the job finished.

Registration is an important step, but it's the starting point, not the end. To get the full benefit, you need to enforce your rights and keep an eye out for anyone trying to register something similar to your brand.

The businesses that run into trouble are usually the ones who registered, put the paperwork away, and never looked again, until a copycat had already built up a head start.

So here's the honest question: how are you currently keeping an eye on yours?

An update on the Katy Perry trademark story we've been following, and it's a good one for the underdog.

Australian designer Katie Taylor has been selling clothing under her own birth name, Katie Perry, since 2007, and registered it as a trademark in 2008.

After years of legal back-and-forth, including her trademark being cancelled in 2024, Australia's High Court has now restored it, ruling against the global popstar.

The takeaway: a designer stood up to one of the most famous names in the world and won, because her trademark was registered properly and early.

That single piece of paperwork was worth more than all the celebrity lawyers on the other side.

Not sure your business name is protected? A quick, free check now could save you years of trouble later.

Most people think trademarks are for big companies. They’re not. They’re for anyone with a brand worth protecting, and that includes you.

The best time to trademark your brand is before you need to defend it. The second-best time is right now.

Here are five times you should be thinking about registration.
We're here to help you make sense of it. No jargon, no hard sell.

If you’ve ever found your brand name on someone else’s website and wondered whether you can do anything about it, this one’s for you.

Ryanair tried. They went to the Irish High Court to stop Skyscanner listing their flights, and the court said no. The reasoning catches a lot of brand owners out, and it’s worth understanding before you reach for a cease and desist.

Swipe through, and save it for the next time you’re not sure where you stand.

If you run a UK business and you’ve ever wondered whether you can mention a big sporting event in your marketing, this one’s for you.
Over in Toronto, pubs are being told they can’t write “World Cup” on a chalkboard. Sounds mad. But the same trademark rules apply here, just to different events, and a lot of small businesses don’t realise until a cease and desist lands.
Take two minutes, swipe through, and save it for the next time you’re planning a campaign.

A good trademark process should give you confidence, not confusion.
It should help you understand where the risks are, what is being protected, and what the next steps look like.

That is the difference between simply filing an application and properly protecting a brand.

Clear advice at the start can prevent a lot of stress later.
If you are building a brand and want to understand whether it is properly protected, drop us a DM.

Registered your trademark? Great. But are you registered in the RIGHT classes? This is one of the most common gaps we see, businesses that have a trademark, but registered it in the wrong categories.

The UK trademark system uses 45 classes of goods and services. You pay per class, and you're only protected in the ones you register. Get it wrong and you either have gaps in your protection, or you've paid for classes you can't properly defend.

We help businesses get their trademark strategy right from the start.
