Fiji Young Lawyers Association hosted a session on Practice Managment as part of its 2024 CLE Program.

The session was chaired by Dilan Patel (Senior Associate at Samuel Ram Lawyers, Ba), the speaker was Siddhart Nandan (Managing Partner at Reddy and Nandan Lawyers) and the commentator was Subhas Parshotam of Parshotam Lawyers.

It was a great session with the young lawyers (and some not so young) inquisitive to learn about managing a practice and practical tips to successfully operate a law practice.

Applications are invited for the following positions in our firm:

A. Personal Assistant/Legal Secretaries.
B. Office Manager/Administrator.
C. Accountant.
D. Accounts Officers.
E. IT Officer.
F. Law Clerks.
G. Property Officers.
H. Office/Administration Officers.

For post (A), relevant attributes of a Personal Assistant will be required.

For posts (B), (C), (D) and (E), relavant Degree, Diploma or Certificate would be desirable but is not necessary.

For posts (F), (G) and (H), the appropriate candidates would be high school leavers with decent grades.

These positions have become available due to expansion of the firm and a high level of emigration of staff, a malaise that has hit all businesses in Fiji.

The firm has been in practice for almost 70 years and operates from large and modern offices at Mid City. It has state of art technology.

We are an established law firm based in Suva and will, in 2020, be in business for 65 years. There are 6 professional staff in the office with 12 support staff. The firm is also connected to large business enterprises in Suva and around Fiji and is able to draw from resources from those enterprises.

We use state of art Information Technology in the firm and are now looking to employ an IT person on a full time basis. Ideally, the appointee should hold a Certificate or Diploma in an Information Technology field. The appointee can be a graduate (with no experience) or someone with 2-3 year's experience.

The appointee must have the ability to develop software and maintain and manage the IT systems in our firm. The appointee will also be required to look after our website, implement changes, load legal updates and generally update and upgrade the site.

The appointee will also be given on-the-job training in basic legal clerical work with the view to expanding that area of work for him/her.

Remuneration will be dependent on the appointee's entry level including qualifications, experience and ability.

The consular website lists Wm Scott & Co (Solicitors) - but this firm ceased to operate some years ago and the consular named there (Narendra Singh Arjun) passed away many years ago.

We are trying to locate Narendra Pratap Sharan. He was formerly of Nayavu, Tailevu and was a schoolteacher. He had some land in Wailoku, Suva.

He then moved to Canada (possibly in the mid 1990's) and was residing in Fraser St, Vancouver.
