Finnish Traditions: Crayfish partyย ๐ฆ๐
Originally adopted from Sweden, these late-summer festivities have become a bigย part of Finnish culture. Theyโre typically celebrated in the countryside, and sometimes even on city balconies โ anywhere friends and family can gather in big groups. The essentials? Singing, schnapps, and plenty of crayfish.
๐ฆย The core to the party is the crayfish. They are served cold, boiled with dill, and eaten with fingers โ often accompanied by white toast, butter, and more dill. Itโs a messy, joyful ritual, complete with bibs, bowls for hand-washing, and stacks of napkins. Guests raise their glasses with a โkippis!โ, sing loudly traditional drinking songs, and feast together.
