የጤና ባለሙያዎች፣ እንደማንኛውም ተቀጣሪ 'የሥራ ማቆም አድማ' የማድረግ መብት ያላቸው ቢሆንም፣ ካለባቸው ሙያዊ እና ሕጋዊ ግዴታ አኳያ፣ የሥራ ማቆም አድማቸው የጤና ተቋሙን መደበኛ አገልግሎት ሙሉ በሙሉ የሚያቋርጥ መሆን የለበትም። አገልግሎትን ሙሉ በሙሉ ማቋረጥ ሕጋዊም ሆነ የሙያዊ ሥነ-ምግባር ተጠያቂነት ሊያስከትል ስለሚችል።
1. የትርፍ ሥራ ሰዓት ክፍያ አልተከፈለኝም በሚል መደበኛ ሥራ ማቆም፣ ሕገ ወጥ አካሄድ ነው።
2. ችግሩ አስተዳደራዊ ሆኖ፣ መፍትሄ ለማግኘት ሌሎች ሰላማዊ አማራጮችን አሟጠው መጠቀም ነበረባቸው። የሥራ ማቆም አድማ፣ ጥንቃቄ የሚያስፈልገውና የመጨረሻ አማራጭ በመሆኑ።
3. ሌሎች አካባቢዎች ያሉ አንዳንድ ጤና ተቋማት ባለሙያዎች ያልተከፈላቸው ስላሉ፣ ችግሩ local አይደለም። ስለዚህ የሥራ ማቆም ምክንያታቸው (just cause) አመክኖያዊ አይደለም።
4. የሥራ ማቆም ውሳኔያቸው ተመጣጣኝ አይደለም። በታካሚዎች ላይ ሊያደርስ ከሚችለው መንከራተት እና ጉዳት አኳያ።
5. የሥራ ማቆሙ ውሳኔ ያሰቡትን ውጤት ሳይሆን፣ ያልገመቱት አሉታዊና እነርሱን የሚጎዳ ችግር ሊያስከትል እንደሚችል በቅድሚያ አላጤኑም። ምክንያቱም በሕጋዊ ማሕበር ያልተደገፈ ውሳኔ፣ ብቻቸውን ያስቀራቸዋል፣ ለአስተዳደራዊ እርምጃም ተጋላጭ ያደርጋቸዋል።

ሲጠቃለል፣ አድማውን በአስቸኳይ አቁማችሁ ወደ ሥራችሁ ተመለሱና ጥያቄያችሁን በአግባቡ ለሚመለከተው አቅርቡ። መልሱንም በትዕግስት ጠብቁ።

In March 2024, BBC Amharic reported that an infertility clinic in Mekele, Tigray, was offering compensation of 10,000 and 30,000 birr for s***m and egg donations, respectively.

Although I was interviewed for the story, my legal insights were conspicuously omitted, likely reflecting a deliberate editorial choice. In response, I took to social media to raise concerns about the legal ramifications of the report and subsequently published an article on Ethiopia’s legal framework for assisted reproduction in JIMLEA in August 2024.

Now, the same international outlet reports that a draft bill has been presented to Parliament to legalize s***m and egg donations. If this is accurate, it underscores the impact my work has had in shaping the conversation and advancing the necessary legal discourse.

There’s nothing new about the level and extent of corruption in government hospitals in Addis Ababa. If you're truly an investigative journalist committed to protecting public interest, you should also visit other healthcare facilities.... you'll likely uncover even more shocking findings.

This report appears to lack constructive intent and instead seems aimed at damaging the reputation of an institution that has played a key role in advancing healthcare and helping many communities in need.
