10/12/2021
Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December. It sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected. The Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 as a common standard of achievements for all peoples and all nations. The 2021 Theme is EQUALITY - Reducing inequalities, advancing human rights.
This year’s Human Rights Day theme relates to 'Equality' and Article 1 of the UDHR – “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.”
The principles of equality and non-discrimination are at the heart of The UDHR which is widely recognized as having inspired, and paved the way for, the adoption of more than seventy human rights treaties, applied today on a permanent basis at global and regional levels. Equality, inclusion, and non-discrimination, in other words is a human rights-based approach to development, it is the best way to reduce inequalities.
