Sax has changed so much in the 20 years we have been here. We found Sax completely by accident, in the days when you swapped your passport for the keys to the castle, we decided immediately this was the town for us.

2008 was a difficult time and it took quite a while to recover, but Sax has more than just recovered; property is increasing in price year on year, and investment in Sax has been incredible.

I recently walked around with my camera looking at the changes, the huge number of properties that have been or are being extended, generally upwards and this is due to the market as there are so few properties for sale in Sax.

It is nice to walk up what used to be known as "Gypsy Hill" and see how many properties have been acquired in order to make "cuartallilos" (Fiesta Houses) and how beautifully they have been reformed whilst there is still a fair representation of the Gypsy Community who have been a aprt of Sax for many years.

Many people who have lived in Sax a while or the surrounding areas have never visited El Plan Recreational Area and it is a shame because on a sunny day in winter, it is one of the most perfect times to go, especially at the weekend when it is busy with mainly Spanish families making use of the public BBQs.

Just go for walk with your dog or borrow one if you don´t have one or take a dogless stroll and the aroma from the cooking will tempt you back to do things the Spanish way. It is a beautiful area and everyone is so friendly.

El Plano is a natural recreational area and outdoor space located in the municipality of Sax in the province of Alicante, Spain. It isn’t a large “national park” in the strict sense, but rather a protected natural zone and popular nature site managed mainly for public recreation, environmental education, and outdoor activities.

🌲 Location & Landscape

Where: North-west of downtown Sax, between the town and the Colonia de Santa Eulalia. It lies in the Valle del Vinalopó, at the base of small mountain ranges like Peña Rubia, Cabrera, and Salinas.

The terrain is mostly flat (“el plano” means “the plain”) and naturally arid with salty soils and dry Mediterranean climate.

Rastro Mas is a family-run antique and second-hand shop catering for all budgets with a vast range of quality selected items.

We also love the idea of restoration and how a once unusable item can be transformed into something that can be cherished and enjoyed again.

Our Story

The sun shines on more than three hundred days a year in the Alicante Province. Tourists come here for the summer heat but it´s the winter warmth that brings hundreds of thousands of Brits to live here, imagine waking up in November, December and January to sunshine, imagine sitting on your terrace developing a winter tan and watching the sun go down over the mountains. Twelve years ago we dared to imagine and never looked back.

Alicante Sunshine Villas is a special Estate Agency, special because it´s a family business run by people who care, special because we are fluent in Spanish and English which means we can take on those properties owned by the Spanish whom other agencies avoid because of the language problems and so miss out on some amazing properties, special because we can do everything for you from finding your dream home to getting all your paperwork in order, introducing you to builders so trustworthy that they have the keys to our house, tradesmen that know their craft, architects, lawyers, notaries, bank managers, yes even them, people who we work with on a daily basis.
