European Parliament approves Copyright Directive

Last 26 March, the European Parliament adopted the Copyright Directive with 348 votes in favour, 274 against and 36 abstentions. In the absence of a formal adoption of the text by the EU Council, countries will have 24 months to transfer the changes into their national legislation.

Tal como adelantamos en nuestra noticia del 29 de junio,  tras la ajustada votación (15/10) en la Comisión de Asuntos Jurídicos, el siguiente paso para la entrada en vigor de la nueva Directiva sobre Derechos de Autor era la votación en el Parlamento Europeo el pasado 5 de julio.

As highlighted in our previous post of 29 June, after the tight vote (15/10) in the Committee on Legal Affairs, the next step for the entry into force of the new Copyright Directive was the vote in the European Parliament last 5th July.

Last 20th June 2018, a Committee of the European Parliament approved the Proposal of European Directive on copyright in the Digital Single Market. The new legislation has, however, two controversial articles, in particular, number 11 and 13.

El pasado 20 de junio, la Comisión de Asuntos Jurídicos del Parlamento Europeo aprobó la Propuesta de Directiva  Europea de Derechos de Autor en el Mercado Único Digital. La nueva normativa tiene dos artículos controvertidos, el número 11 y el 13.

Last 23 April, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the monkey that took a selfie using a photographer's camera cannot sue for copyright. The appeals court said U.S. copyright law confers the right to sue on humans.
