126 years after Dutch-French painter Camille Pissarro sat at his window to paint, his work that was looted by N***s in 1939, is at the centre of an ongoing international dispute that has lasted more than two decades. We debated what is one of the most famous cases of its kind in history in class with our students and discussed whether the painting be removed from display in Madrid or whether it is it fine where it is. What do you think?

According to the Cambridge dictionary a golden handshake is “ usually large payment made to people when they leave their job, either when their employer has asked them to leave or when they are leaving at the end of their working life, as a reward for very long or good service in their job”. It is also a clause in an executive employment contract that provides the executive with a significant severance package in the case the executive loses their job in case of firing, restructuring or even scheduled retirement. We don’t have an equivalent in Italian nor I believe in Spanish. However it is now quite common in the business world to hear about this expression.

There are a lot of idioms that can be used business environment and I would like to start this week with a couple of them: Balance the books and Golden handshake. The first one is the equivalent of “ far quadrare i conti “ in Italian and “Cuadrar las cuentas” in Spanish. Normally the meaning of this would be “o make certain that the amount of money spent is not more than the amount of money received”. It is also used to “ settle an account by paying what is due”.
