🪪Visa, Residency and Renewal applications.

⚠️Important reminder about initial applications / renewals and financial documents.

We’ve seen an increasing number of people posting about using my PDF resources and ChatGPT to create or modify documents for their applications.

We want to make something very clear.

ℹ️There is a significant difference between providing a translation or clarification of a genuine document and editing an original financial document or creating a copy that appears to have been issued by the financial institution when it has not.

When submitting documents electronically for an NLV renewal, please keep the following in mind:

✅ Provide copies of the genuine original documents.

✅ Where required, obtain a sworn translation (traducción jurada) of the original document.

✅ If you need to provide a summary, explanation or clarification in Spanish, this can be provided as a separate document, rather than altering the original financial document.

✅ If a document has genuinely been edited or annotated for explanatory purposes, it should be clearly identified as an edited/annotated copy and must not give the impression that it was issued in that form by the bank or other financial institution.

❌ Do not use ChatGPT, PDF editors or other software to alter financial information on an original document.

❌ Do not create a translated or reconstructed version of a financial document that could appear to have been issued by the bank or financial institution.

❌ Do not alter figures, dates, balances, account information or other information on a financial document and then submit it without clearly identifying what has been changed and who made those changes.

⚠️ This is not about finding the right software or the right wording to make a document look acceptable. It is about submitting genuine and accurately represented evidence.

Fraud and the submission or use of false or misleading documentation can have very serious consequences. Depending on the circumstances, this could potentially affect an immigration application or renewal and may also have criminal consequences.

Please don't try to cut corners or take shortcuts to save a few euros. It simply isn't worth the risk.

We appreciate that many people share what “worked for them” and say that they used ChatGPT or another programme to modify documents and their renewal was approved. But approval does NOT necessarily mean that the method used was appropriate or compliant.

A document could potentially be questioned later during a compliance check, audit or other review of an immigration file. What worked for someone else is therefore NOT a guarantee that the same approach is safe or acceptable for you.

If you qualify for a visa, residency, renewal or long-term residency, the safest approach is straightforward:

Use genuine documents, provide accurate information, obtain the appropriate translations / legalisations where required, and clearly distinguish any separate explanations or annotations from the original evidence.

Don't put yourself in a position where you have to look over your shoulder later.🤯

Do it properly. Do it honestly. Have peace of mind.😎

🤔EHIC / GHIC or TSE? Can I apply for any?

Traveling and Healthcare Cover 🌍✈️

UK Citizens in Spain - Are you confused about the differences between the EHIC, GHIC, and the Spanish TSE? Knowing which one you are eligible for is essential for traveling to any of the countries that are covered.

Here is the breakdown of who gets what:

🇬🇧 THE UK CARDS: GHIC & EHIC
The UK NHS Overseas Healthcare Services only issues a UK EHIC or GHIC to British citizens living in Spain if the UK remains officially responsible for their healthcare. This applies primarily to those with a registered S1 form in Spain.

🔹 UK EHIC
(European Health Insurance Card)
Who qualifies: S1 holders who moved to Spain BEFORE January 1, 2021 (protected by the Withdrawal Agreement).

🔹 UK GHIC
(Global Health Insurance Card)
Who qualifies: S1 holders who moved to Spain AFTER December 31, 2020.

🇪🇸 THE SPANISH CARD: TSE

🔹 TSE (Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea)
Who qualifies: Anyone who is registered within the Spanish public healthcare system via Spanish Social Security. This includes:
• Employed workers and self-employed individuals (autónomos)
• Holders of a Spanish state pension
• Those paying into the pay-in scheme (Convenio Especial)
• Dependents of anyone listed above

❌ PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE / NO COVER
If you do not fall into the S1 or Spanish Social Security categories, meaning you rely solely on private healthcare insurance or currently have no state cover, there is NO option to apply for a TSE, GHIC, or EHIC.

📌 Remember - None of these travel cards can be used for healthcare inside Spain. They are strictly for emergency medical care when you travel to one of the countries that are included!

📌 The UK National Health Service (NHS) and the European Commission explicitly state that these cards are not a substitute for travel insurance, and travelers are strongly advised to carry both.

The Non Lucrative Visa and the option for Long Term Residency after 5 years living in Spain. 😎🇪🇸

The second half of this year we are congratulating the first rounds of British Citizens reaching the 5 year anniversary on the NLV (Non Lucrative Visa), and celebrating the important milestone with those that have achieved their goal to becoming Long Term Residents in Spain. 🇪🇸🎉

The Initial ties for the Long Term Residency are issued for 5 years, and there after for those that are over 30 further renewals for the cards will be issued for 10 years.

Long Term Residency allows absences from the EU for up to 12 months consecutively, or multiple trips up to a total of 30 months in any 5 year rolling period. 😎

📆The next milestone for some will be after the next 5 years, when they reach a total of 10 years of residency it may be possible to apply for citizenship in Spain.

ℹ️To qualify for Long Term Residency on the NLV you can not be out of Spain for more than 10 months during the temporary residency of 5 years. (As well as maintaining the terms of the NLV)

During the summer months July and August everything slows down in Spain, including the processing of Non Lucrative Visa applications. ☀️⛱️🍉😎

ℹ️The Non Lucrative Visa continues to be the most popular Visa for retired and non working British Nationals moving to Spain. Applications can be made in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. Since the start of the year we have seen some improvements in the turnaround times from application submission to receiving the Visa, although the times do still vary, from only a few days to several weeks. The next few months we expect to see applications increase as many will be aiming to submit theirs before the notorious slow processing months of July and August. In the previous 5 years we have seen the longest delays for many that have applied over these summer months.

The Non Lucrative Visa continues to be the most popular Visa for retired UK Citizens moving from the UK to Spain. 🇬🇧➡️🇪🇸

The visa enables non eu Citizens to stay more than 90 days and up to 5 years as temporary residents.

After 5 years it may be possible to apply for Long Term Residency, subject to meeting the terms of temporary residency.

For long term residency a maximum time of 10 months in total can be spend outside of Spain.

The Non Lucrative Visa (NLV)is a temporary residency to enable Non EU Citizens to stay longer than 3 months in Spain, and up to 5 years.

The initial Visa is approval for temporary residency of 1 year and this can be renewed twice for 2 years at a time.

After 5 years it may be possible to apply for Long Term Residency, subject to spending less than 10 months in the 5 years prior, outside of Spain.

Applications for the NLV are submitted through the BLS agencies in London, Manchester & Edinburgh. They are then transferred to the local consulate in each area, for submission to immigration in the region you are moving to, and then once the residency is approved the final checks and issuance of the Visa is made by the consulate.

To apply for the NLV you will require a passive income / Savings, Healthcare, Criminal record check & Medical certificate.

A great post to understand the journey of your Non Lucrative Visa Application.

🇬🇧➡️🇪🇸Applications for the Non Lucrative Visa in the UK are initially submitted through the agency BLS located in London, Manchester & Edinburgh.

Applicants should apply in the jurisdiction of their residence in the UK.

BLS will transfer the application the next day to the local Spanish Consulate General.

♦️The Consulate will check and input the application details into their system for submission electronically to Spanish Immigration, in the region you are planning to move to.

♦️After the application has been submitted additional documents or a request to attend an interview in support of the application can be requested.

The legal period for reaching a resolution is 3 months from the day after the application submission date, but this period may be extended if an interview or additional documents are requested.

♦️Once a resolution is reached by immigration, the Consulate are notified.

If approved the Consulate then make the final checks to issue the Visa and should notify applicants within 30 days of the resolution.

‼️It is a good idea to apply well in advance of the intended move to Spain, as it is not possible to influence how long an application can take.

The initial Visa is placed in your passport and will be valid for up to 1 year.

Your temporary residency on the NLV starts the first day you enter Spain after the Visa commences.

When you reach the end of your 5 years temporary residency on the NLV you have the option to apply for Long Term Residency. It is important to understand what your options are at this stage and to plan ahead.

📆The 5 year anniversary is approaching for many British Citizens that first moved to Spain in 2021, with the Non Lucrative Visa.

After 5 years as temporary residents on the NLV, individuals can apply for Long Term Residency.

What are the main criteria for applicants?

✅Not exceeding 10 months outside of Spain during the 5 year period of temporary residency.
✅Maintaining the conditions of temporary residency throughout.
✅Having no criminal record in Spain.
✅Being up to date with tax obligations.

ℹ️The NLV is designed for non EU citizens who wish to reside in Spain without working, allowing stays beyond 90 days and up to 5 years under temporary residency.

For those who may not meet the criteria for Long Term Residency, reapplying for the Non Lucrative Visa may still be an option, depending on individual circumstances.
