Spain has won its second World Cup, and many comments are being made about this achievement. However, one very important point is missing: we won the World Cup thanks to England — or the United Kingdom.

Why? The reason football began in Spain is that in the north of the province of Huelva there is a mining‑rich area where English companies settled to work. On Sundays, when they were not working, they played football, and the Spanish began playing by copying them. That is how football arrived in Spain.

The second reason relates to this World Cup. When England was winning in the semifinal, instead of wasting time, using dirty tricks, or trying to manipulate the match, they continued playing with integrity, sticking to their principles regardless of the consequences. They lost, but they showed the world that whether you win or lose, football is a way to demonstrate moral and ethical standards — and that principles matter more than the final score.

In this video, as a Spanish person, I would like to express my sincere wish for England — obviously if not Spain — to win the Football World Cup. They always play fairly, show honesty towards the referee and the country they are competing against, and if they win, they want to do so in a fair and respectful way.

This has also been my experience in my professional dealings with English people. I have learned a great deal from them about being consistently honest, kind, and polite. For this reason, I truly wish England all the best, and I support them right after Spain.
