Exploring French citizenship through your Pieds-Noirs roots?
Some descendants of Pieds-Noirs families may qualify for French citizenship by descent.

But there’s one important point: there is no special 'Pieds-Noirs visa.'

Eligibility usually depends on:

• whether your parent or grandparent legally held French nationality
• whether citizenship was correctly passed down through the family line
• supporting family records and documentation

Birth in a former French territory alone is not enough.

Another week, another Lexidy Open House… this time at our Lisbon HQ.

One of our favourite moments from the evening: catching up with a US founder we helped relocate to Portugal, now building their tech startup from Lisbon.

We’re finishing up this season’s Open House events at our Porto & Barcelona HQ’s on May 28th. We would LOVE to see you there!

P.S. It’s not too late to join us – DM us and we’ll send over the details.

Spain’s Entrepreneur Visa has one major gatekeeper: ENISA And it’s where many founders get stuck.

Before your application can move forward, ENISA must confirm that your business is:

- innovative
- scalable
- economically valuable to Spain

And no, a strong idea alone isn’t enough.

Your business plan needs to clearly demonstrate growth potential, market opportunity, monetisation and traction.

The process is fully digital and can take up to 3 months, SO timing matters too.

Planning your move to Spain? DM us, let’s explore your options.

There was (almost) not enough tapas and sangria to go around!
Our Madrid Open House brought the people and the energy.

Huge thanks to everyone who stopped by, whether it was for a quick hello or a long conversation about expat life, business building, relocation plans and everything in between.

No two stories are ever the same and that’s what makes these events so special.

We hate to say it… but we’re nearly at the end of this year’s series.

Two more to go:
🇪🇸 Barcelona: May 28
🇵🇹 Porto: May 28

More Americans are exploring what it actually means to renounce U.S. citizenship. And despite what many assume, it’s not a simple form or quick administrative step.

The process is formal, irreversible and handled in person through a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad.

Applicants must attend interviews, complete multiple government forms, pay a non-refundable fee of USD 2,350, and receive approval from the Department of State before a Certificate of Loss of Nationality (CLN) is issued.

One of the biggest misconceptions?
You cannot renounce U.S. citizenship from within the United States.

The conversation around citizenship, tax obligations, and global mobility is becoming increasingly complex – especially for Americans living abroad.

As highlighted in recent reporting by The Guardian, more U.S. citizens are beginning to seriously consider their long-term options.

If you’re exploring residency, dual nationality, or expatriation pathways in Europe, understanding the legal and tax implications early is essential.

Looking at property in Italy?

Most people jump straight to the €1 home initiative BUT the reality is much broader than that.

From entry points under €100K to high-end coastal properties, there’s a wide range of options. And yes, foreigners can buy without needing residency.

The process is more straightforward than you might expect, though getting the details right makes all the difference.

Save this for later and DM us if you’re exploring your options 👀

It's time to spotlight one of our Corporate team members... meet ✨ Barbara Ferreira ✨

For Barbara, it’s about making things simpler for people – taking something that feels overwhelming and turning it into something manageable.

Based in Portugal, she brings a mix of structure and perspective, always keeping the person behind the process in mind.

Fun fact: she was born with teeth… and apparently made hospital history on day one.

🚨 JUST IN 🚨 Portugal has officially approved major changes to its Nationality Law.

On May 3, 2026, the President of Portugal promulgated the new law, introducing stricter requirements for citizenship and naturalisation.

Key changes include:

→ Residency requirements increasing to 7 years for EU and Portuguese-speaking country nationals
→ 10 years for all other nationalities • Children born in Portugal now requiring at least one parent to have legally lived in Portugal for 5 years at the time of birth
→ New language, culture and civic knowledge requirements for naturalisation applicants

One important point: applications already submitted before the law enters into force will continue under the previous rules.

This is a significant shift in Portugal’s immigration landscape and could impact future citizenship timelines for many foreign residents.

If you’re currently planning a move or exploring your eligibility, now is the time to understand how these changes may affect your situation.

A flying visit to our Lexidy office in Athens for our recent ✨ Open House ✨

It was a full house. Plenty of conversations with past clients who made the move, new faces figuring things out and a lot of shared stories about life in a new country – the good, the interesting and the difficult bits too.

We can’t believe we’re already halfway through this year’s meet and greets.

Next up, we’re heading to TWO of our favourite places…
Lisbon: May 7
Madrid: May 13
