Your TIE is stuck in renewal and you booked a flight? With an expired TIE you can be denied re-entry into Spain.

The fix is the autorización de regreso (form EX-13): a re-entry permit valid up to 90 days while your card is processed. One catch: you must re-enter through a Spanish border crossing, so avoid connecting through another Schengen country.

How to check your Spanish residency / NIE / visa application status yourself, for free.

The Spanish government tracks every immigration file online. Enter your NIE (or your expediente number), the date you submitted, and your date of birth on the official sede electronica, and you'll see if your file is in progress, approved, or denied. You can also check by free SMS to 651 714 610 (text NIE and your number).

Your Spain Non-Lucrative Visa was denied. That is not the end of the road. It is a deadline.

You usually have one month to file a recurso de reposición, or two months for the court route. Miss that window and you lose the appeal entirely and start again from zero.

Here is what most people get wrong: they read the refusal, assume it is final, and wait. But most denials are not about the money. They are about documents. A health policy with a hidden copay. No proof you stopped working. An unclear source of funds. A flawed criminal-record certificate. Every one of those is fixable inside the window.
