🌿🍇 Get to know Canada del Trigo, Murcia Spain 🍇🌿

This week we thought we’d share a little bit about Cañada del Trigo, as it’s an area many people ask us about when looking around inland Murcia and near Pinoso.

Cañada del Trigo, a small village that forms part of the municipality of Jumilla, right on the border of Murcia and Alicante, and only around 10 minutes from Pinoso. It sits within the El Carche area, which is quite unique because Valencian/Catalan is traditionally spoken here alongside Spanish due to the historical connection with nearby towns in Alicante.

The village itself is small, with around 160 inhabitants, but has many vineyards, almond groves, olive trees and open countryside. Agriculture has always been a big part of life here, especially grape growing and wine production, thanks to the dry climate. The area around Jumilla is actually one of Spain’s well known wine-producing regions.

You’ll still find local wineries and cooperatives nearby, and Bodegas Arloren is close by too, where people can buy local wines, liquors and vermouth, or book tours around the winery and vineyards.

Cañada del Trigo has a very local feel to it. There’s a bar restaurant, a public medical centre, a primary school, two small children’s parks, a mechanic and a local place of worship. For secondary schools, students usually travel to nearby larger towns and villages.

A lot of people who move here like the fact that they can enjoy proper countryside living while still being close to Pinoso, where you have everything needed for day to day life.

The village isn’t heavily built up, but there are some new build homes starting to appear in the surrounding countryside as more people look for quieter areas with space, views and a slower pace of life.

Another thing good for buyers to consider is that purchase taxes on resale properties in Murcia are lower than in the Alicante region.

For travel, Alicante Airport is around 50 minutes away, Murcia Airport just over an hour, and the coast roughly 50 to 60 minutes depending on where you go.

It’s definitely not somewhere for people looking for busy tourist areas or city life. It’s more about countryside living, the community, space and simplicity, and for many people that’s exactly the reason they fall in love with it.
