🚨 Egypt’s Old Rent Law: Big Changes Coming Soon

The Supreme Constitutional Court has issued a final deadline - Parliament must issue a new rent law to replace the decades-old regime that has allowed tenants to occupy properties for life, paying symbolic rents as low as a few pounds.

For landlords, this is a long-awaited shift.
For tenants, it’s an uncertain future.

The proposed amendments aim to gradually increase rents, set a 5-year transition period, and eventually bring leases to an end. But with millions of units under the old system, the challenge is not just legal - it’s social and economic.

The law is expected to be issued any time now.

🚨 تعديل قانون الإيجار القديم: التغيير المنتظر يقترب

أصدرت المحكمة الدستورية العليا قرارًا نهائيًا يُلزم البرلمان بإصدار قانون جديد للإيجارات القديمة، وذلك بعد عقود من العمل بقانون يسمح للمستأجرين بالبقاء في العقار مدى الحياة، مقابل إيجار رمزي لا يتجاوز أحيانًا بضعة جنيهات شهريًا.

القانون المقترح يتضمن زيادات تدريجية في الإيجار، وفترة انتقالية مدتها 5 سنوات، وبعدها تنتهي العقود تلقائيًا. ومع وجود ملايين الوحدات الخاضعة للنظام القديم، فإن التحدي يتجاوز القانون، ليشمل الأبعاد الاجتماعية والاقتصادية أيضًا.
