Most trainings on IP law look at patents, trademarks, and trade secrets in isolation. But in today’s regulatory environment, the real challenges happen at the boundaries where industrial property intersects with broader legal frameworks. 💡

Whether you are navigating the EU Data Act, handling FRAND disputes, or assessing how fundamental rights impact IP strategies, staying ahead requires a cross-disciplinary approach.

📣 Here is why this upcoming online seminar is uniquely valuable:
• Direct Insights from Key Decision-Makers:
Learn directly from leading figures shaping the law, including judges from the CJEU and the Unified Patent Court (UPC) Court of Appeal, alongside top OECD experts and legal scholars.
• Real-World Cases & Cutting-Edge Developments:
Go beyond theory with analysis of recent landmark cases and emerging issues—from IKEA v. Vlamms and Fujifilm v. Kodak to long-arm jurisdiction, UPC preliminary questions, and data access policies.
• Interactive, Not A Passive Webcast:
With dedicated 15-minute Q&A sessions after every topic, you can discuss complex questions directly with speakers and international peers.
• Designed for Busy Practice Schedules:
Spread across two short morning-only sessions (09:00 – 12:30 CET), you gain high-level insights without disrupting your afternoon client work.

Our experts for this webinar:
• Peter Blok, Professor, Center for Intellectual Property Law of Utrecht University, Deputy Judge, Commercial Law Chamber of the Court of Appeal, The Hague, Judge, Court of Appeal, Unified Patent Court, Luxembourg
• Maria Pilar Canedo Arrillaga, Senior Expert, Competition Division of OECD - OCDE; Visiting Professor, School of Law, University of Deusto, Bilbao

What will digital finance look like in practice over the next few years?

On 22–23 October, ERA is bringing together experts from European institutions, academia, private practice and the financial sector in Trier – and online – for two days of discussion on the digitalisation issues currently shaping financial services and banking.
There is plenty to talk about.

DORA is in its implementation phase. The debate around FIDA and open finance continues. MiCAR is providing its first practical lessons. Work on the Digital Euro is progressing. And, perhaps most significantly, AI is becoming an increasingly important part of both banking and financial services.
Rather than looking at these developments in isolation, the conference will consider what they mean for regulators, supervisors and the professionals dealing with them in practice. The programme includes discussions on DORA implementation and critical third-party supervision, crypto-asset supervision at EU level, and the use of AI and SupTech – with perspectives from both the ECB and industry.

Experts for this seminar are
• Filippo Annunziata, Professor of Financial Markets and Banking Legislation, Bocconi University & Founding Partner, Annunziata & Conso, Milan
• Christopher Buttigieg, Chief Officer, Supervision, Malta Financial Services Authority & Associate Professor, University of Malta
• Cathrine Foldberg Møller, Partner, DLA Piper, Luxembourg
• Thierry Frigout, DORA Head of Unit, European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), Frankfurt
• Christos Gortsos, Professor of Public Economic Law, University of Luxembourg & National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
• Michael Huertas, Partner, PwC Legal, Frankfurt
• Vasilis Papaefthymiou, Supervisor, Supervisory Technologies Expert, European Central Bank (ECB), Frankfurt
• Verena Ritter Döring, Partner, Taylor Wessing, Frankfurt
• Marco Rotoloni, Chair of the EBF AI Expert Group, European Banking Federation, Brussels & Co-Head of Research, ABI Lab, Rome
• Julia Sinnig, Assistant Professor in Commercial Law, University of Luxembourg

Who keeps cross-border justice moving as judicial procedures become increasingly digital?

Court staff are central to making cross-border cooperation work in practice. “Training of court staff and bailiffs/judicial officers on the digitalisation of judicial cooperation in civil and criminal law procedures” is an ERA project funded by the European Union under the Justice Programme.

It combines practical training on EU civil and criminal law with Legal English, digital skills and the exchange of expertise with professionals from other European justice systems.

The Academy of European Law is implementing the project with the Belgian Judicial Training Institute, the Bulgarian National Institute of Justice, the Polish National School of Judiciary and Public Prosecution, the Romanian National School of Clerks and the European Union of Judicial Officers, with the support of 19 associated partners across Europe.

📅 Training events in 2026
• EU Civil Law and Legal English | Sofia | 27–29 May 2026
• EU Criminal Law and Legal English | Bucharest | 16–18 June 2026

“I can help you multiply your money.” That promise is often where a crypto scam begins.

In this e-presentation, Lars Schlichting walks through three real-world cases involving fake investment platforms, fraudulent tokens, withdrawal traps and so-called recovery services.

He explains how scammers build trust, why apparent profits on investment platforms may not be real, and how crypto transactions can sometimes still be traced.

Recorded in 2024, this practical e-presentation is relevant to anyone working with digital assets, financial crime, fraud investigations or crypto-related legal questions.
