Jessup Moot Court Team Göttingen

Dear Students,
the Göttingen Team for the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is looking for strong and motivated participants.
The Jessup Moot Court gives students the unique opportunity to work as a lawyer and to prepare a brief and present your case in front of the International Court of Justice.
Additionaly, you are able to do your Sprachschein, your Schlüsselqualifikation, vorbereitende Leistung and your Studien- or Seminararbeit.

This year’s topics are: The obligations and responses of States with respect to the outbreak of a global pandemic, questions of the jurisdiction of the Court, political asylum by an alleged rouge scientist and State responsibility for a suspicious aircraft explosion.
If you are interested in intensively working on these topics of international law, become part of Gottingen’s Jessup Team 2020/21!

You can send your application to [email protected] till the 1st of july 2020.
Your application should contain a letter of motivation and your Curriculum Vitae (CV).

Liebe Studierende,

für das Göttinger Team des Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Courts suchen wir auch in diesem Jahr wieder motivierte Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer.

Der Jessup Moot Court bietet dir die einmalige Möglichkeit, ein Semester lang in die Rolle eines Anwalts/einer Anwältin zu schlüpfen und eine fiktive Streitigkeit vor dem Internationalen Gerichtshof zu bearbeiten, Schriftsätze zu erstellen und Plädoyers vorzubereiten.
Daneben kannst du im Rahmen des Jessups den Sprachschein und den Schlüsselqualifikationsschein erwerben, sowie eine vorbereitende Leistung oder eine Studien- bzw. Seminararbeit verfassen.

Göttingen's Jessup Team experienced exciting and successful days at the GERMAN NATIONAL ROUNDS!
After an excellent performance in the Preliminary Rounds only the Team from Berlin's Hertie School prevailed against us in the Quarter Finals – the 30 minutes deliberation period of the split bench will remain unforgotten. We are very proud of the Best Oralist Runner-Up Award going to Göttingen this year as well as thankful for very high scores of all our speakers! 💪👍
Moreover, our Mooties Elena Ben Salem, Ronja Böhme, Elric Erichsmeier, Jesko Gerken and Jakob Wagner-Douglas as well as our Coaches Caroline Lichuma and Timo Albrecht say a big "thank you" to the National Administrators and their whole team for organizing amazing National Rounds here in Göttingen! 👌 Last but not least, we also want to cordially thank all our supporters and sponsors who made these successful performances possible! We are proud of having such an engaging Institute behind us and are sure that the successful path will continue in the next years! ⚖️

Thanks a lot to White & Case LLP, Frankfurt am Main, for supporting Göttingen's Jessup Team by providing the opportunity to practice pleadings! We enjoyed the time in Frankfurt and hope to see you next year again!

Your application should be in English and include a short letter of motivation, a CV and a recent academic transcript. *57. Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court: German National Rounds beendet*

Am vergangenen Sonntagnachmittag kehrte das fünfköpfige Göttinger Team des Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court nach dreitägigen National Rounds, dieses Jahr in der bayrischen Landeshauptstadt, wieder heim. Im Wettstreit mit 21 deutschen Universitäten verspassten Victoria Guijarro, Katrin Bensler, Christoph Hanz, Christin Carlsen sowie Katharina Creemer trotz beeindruckender Leistungen knapp das Viertelfinale des deutschen Vorausscheids. Die Teams mussten sich mit völkerrechtlichen Streitfragen der Massenüberwachung, Spionage, Cyber Angriffen sowie der Behandlung von Terrorverdächtigen auseinandersetzen.

Vor der Richterbank des fiktiven Internationalen Gerichtshofs, die u.a. mit den ehemaligen Richtern am IGH Simma und Koroma sowie Richterin am EGMR Nußberger und BVR Paulus besetzt war, konnten sich schließlich die Bucerius Law School sowie die Teams aus München und Bochum für die International Rounds in Washington D.C. qualifizieren.

Damit hat das Göttinger Team die Moot Court Saison 2015/16 nach knapp vier Monaten Schriftsatzerarbeitung sowie über einem Monat Probepleadings nun beendet und will den Jessup-Spirit an den neuen Durchgang, dessen Bewerbungsverfahren voraussichtlich Ende Mai starten wird, weitergeben.
