Despite the fact that Austria is a small country, there are a lot of unusual activities that can be done.
In the winter, Austria is a great ski destination with a lot of ski resorts available. Private Properties suggests you to go to St Anton which is situated at 1,305m of altitude and the Valluga, the highest lift, is at 2,810m. This resort is best for advanced skiers, offering 97 lifts, and 345km of slopes. Additionally, St Anton is also as serious about its raucous nightlife as it is about its skiing, so for the ones who equally enjoy the “after-ski”, that resort is a good match.
This weekend, there will be the Formula 1 race in Spielberg, now owned by Red Bull. Spielberg is a charming village situated two hours from Vienna and offering fantastic views of the mountains. The Mercedes and more specifically, Lewis Hamilton are dominating the championship, but Ferrari is fighting hard to keep up with their pace and the grand prix should once again provides great battles.
Finally, the Hangar-7 also owned by Red Bull is a “must see” where you can admire the astonishing historic aircraft collection of Dietrich Mateschitz, the founder and CEO of Red Bull. There are dozens of aircrafts, helicopters, racing cars to see and you can at the same time relax at the fancy bar or restaurant. Moreover, there are also nice piece of art and some airshows all year long, so do not hesitate to have a look at: http://www.hangar-7.com/en/
Hangar-7 (close to Salzburg) is three hours away by car or two hours and a half by train from Vienna, which makes it doable on a day trip added to the fact that the landscape you will see on your way is absolutely beautiful.
