𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀

Since the 1980s Kühme make refueling valves are used in airport or airfield tank farms and fuel pipeline systems with up to 100 bar operating pressure for multiple applications:

- Pressure regulation with overpressure protection feature
- Flow regulation with overflow protection feature
- Non return feature
- Up to refueling valves with “dead man’s handle” for the direct fuel uplift of military aircrafts and many, many more individual tailored functions.

All refueling valves are working autonomous by means of self-medium control. In most cases in-house made pilot systems are applied to realize the complex individual functions and adding extra safety for the critical process of refueling.

For an emission reduction of up to 80% in an auxiliary plant for steel production, the respective combustion system is also completely renewed. As safety is not negotiable Kühme has been awarded with the contract for in total 76 pcs. Hybrid Valve Combinations combining the safe shut-off and control of the gaseous fuels.

Because the modern burners require a wide control range, the customer receives combined quick-closing safety shut-off and control valves with 𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗿-𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, which guarantee 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 but especially for the minimum operating point.

Flying Dutchman spotted in Kühme airspace:
The roll out to the client is starting with a heavy lift first, before this steering-lever butterfly flap valve type PKIII/S is heading to a Dutch steelwork. Unfortunately, the flap valve cannot fly on its own but is nevertheless equipped with a lot of technical finesse. Besides reliable Kühme shut-off performance for challenging operating media the device is incorporates a special control feature for the start-up of a large-scale boiler for energetic production by means of the process gases decoupled out of the steel production.
The automatic control of the PKIII/S is realized by means of a control cabinet manufactured by our partner Startflow B.V. which allows the decentralized installation for an easy accessibility in connection with remote sensing signal for the electro-pneumatic positioner.

Throwback Thursday – Summer 2021 meets 1976:
Last summer two large scale safety steering-lever butterfly flap valves from another era have been overhauled at Kühme works. Since 1976 both PKIII/D types are utilized as main shut-off devices in a blast furnace gas fueled power plant:

Size: DN 2000 (ND 80″)
Operating pressure: 100 mbar g
Operating temperature: +100°C
Weight: 9+ metric tons (per valve)

The major overhaul contained renewal and replacement of all main components such as the main shaft, disc plate, etc. Just the valve bodies have been reused after performing detail inspection, wall thickness measurements and strength testing.

As originally performed with original delivery 1976, the function and tightness test has been performed with and witnessed by independent notified body, verifying that our customer now has a valve with proven Kühme reliability in use again for the upcoming operational years.

Do you like it fast? - ESD valve for gas turbine application in offshore design:
Handling fuel gas with up to 80% hydrogen at 38,5 bar g this Kühme KVH type carries some specific design features tailored for end user’s application. Errected to safeguard the fuel supply to gas turbine in a refinery in direct coastal area, the valve is executed in full offshore design and complies to NACE standard.

Furthermore the turbine system requires an ultra-fast shut-off. Hence there is an easy decision for Kühme as our valve warrants for 100% helium tight shut-off in only 0,1 seconds.
