Baby born in Berlin?

Registering your baby’s birth at the Standesamt can be confusing, especially for international parents.

You may need to understand:

✓ which Standesamt is responsible
✓ which documents are required
✓ whether translations are needed
✓ what happens if the parents are not married
✓ how the citizenship check works
✓ how to respond to Standesamt letters

Important: A baby born in Germany is not automatically German only because of the birthplace. German citizenship at birth may apply if at least one parent has lived legally in Germany for at least 5 years and has a permanent right of residence.

ExpatEaze helps international parents in Berlin with Standesamt letters, document preparation, German ↔ English support, and follow-up communication.

Independent support. Not part of the Standesamt. No legal advice.

Unemployed and registered with the Agentur für Arbeit?

Then you may be eligible to apply for a **Bildungsgutschein (BGS)** — but a strong application needs proper preparation.

Before speaking to your case worker, it helps to prepare:
• a clear job goal
• the right course offer
• relevant job postings
• a motivation letter
• proof of applications and rejections

I’ve put together a practical guide explaining how to prepare a stronger BGS application and what to pay attention to.

I’m pleased to share that I’ll be attending Aspiring Founders Meetup #15 at ATworld Alexanderplatz on Thursday, 19 March.

As the founder of ExpatEaze, I’m looking forward to connecting with founders, freelancers, and internationals in Berlin, and to sharing how ExpatEaze supports expats with interpreting, bureaucracy, and navigating important official processes in Germany.

If you’ll be there too, let’s connect.
