Entry Requirements for Italian Universities
When applying to study a bachelor, master or PhD in an Italian university, there are several entry requirements that you need to keep in mind.

Bachelor Studies
In order to meet entry requirements for a bachelor's degree at an Italian university, you must successfully have completed upper secondary studies, have a valid school certificate and qualify for higher education studies in your home country. Keep in mind you are requested to prove your level of knowledge of Italian.

Master Studies
To study a master's degree at an Italian university, you will need to have a relevant bachelor or equivalent degree diploma. As part of the entry requirements, you you will need to submit the following when applying for the program of your choice:

Identity document
Academic transcript of your previous studies
University application form
Letter of recommendation
Personal Statement
Language proficiency (English or Italian, depending on the program)
PhD Studies
To meet entry requirements for a PhD at an Italian university. you need a relevant diploma or master degree program. Some Italian universities also required for applicants to present their research proposal.

Things to Keep in Mind
Always check with the university to confirm the minimum grade you need to have and entry requirements you need to meet in order to study in Italy.

For certain competitive study programs (such as health and medicine, veterinary, education and architecture), higher education institutions required specific admission exams.

How to Apply
European citizens, non-EU citizen's resident in Italy with a current, valid "permesso di soggiorno" apply directly to the University in Italy. Non-EU citizen's resident abroad must submit a pre-application request to the Italian Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence.

Program Costs
Participants in University of Chicago Study Abroad programs pay the same tuition as if they were on campus, plus a non-refundable study abroad administrative fee and, in most cases, a program fee set by the College. Each program fee includes housing and subsidizes the cost of excursions and instruction; please visit the specific program pages for precise fees. Financial Aid and Scholarship & Grant opportunities are available.

All charges, except for the administrative fee, are billed by and paid to the University of Chicago Bursar. For one-quarter programs the charges are applied solely to that quarter’s bill. For academic-year programs the administrative fee is billed in the first quarter of the program only. Participants in Chicago-sponsored programs abroad are not charged Chicago’s Student Life fee during the quarter(s) of their participation.

Non-refundable Study Abroad Administrative Fee
This is a one-time fee used to cover administrative costs for Study Abroad. It is assessed only once, regardless of the length of a student's program. Once admitted, students are expected to sign an Admission Acceptance form and submit it along with the administrative fee.

Requirements for English Programs at Italian Medical Schools
Now that you know how much it costs, you’re probably wondering what’s required to get into these schools. The requirements include taking the IMAT (the International Medical Admission Test) in English. The score needed on this test varies from school to school. The International Medical School wants its applicants to score at least 40.50, Pavia wants 38.75, and Sapienza requires 36.50. The schools also require you to have done some prerequisites as an undergrad. These include mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology. If you have high grades in these classes and a good IMAT score, you will be a high contender for getting into one of the Italian medical schools. If your test scores and grades are high you might even be eligible for some scholarships, which would make the Italian schools even more affordable for you.

Tuition fees in public universities
Public universities in Italy set their tuition fees according to the level of degree, and the study programme.

Average tuition fees: 850 and 1,000 EUR/year.
Tuition fees in prestigious public universities in Italy may exceed 1,000 EUR/ year.
In most institutions, EU students also benefit from lower tuition fees compared to non-EU students and some of the state universities in Italy set the tuition based on the student’s parental income.

Tuition fees in private universities
Private universities in Italy usually charge higher tuition fees compared to public universities and most of them have the same fees for both EU and non-EU students.

The average tuition fees in private universities range from 6,000 to around 20,000 EUR/year.

Italian Government Scholarships for Foreign Students
The Italian Government awards scholarships for studying in Italy both to foreign citizens and Italian citizens resident abroad (IRE). The scholarships are offered for the following type of courses: Undergraduate University courses (renewals only); Postgraduate University courses; Master’s Degree courses (Levels I or II); Ph.D. Courses; Specialisation Schools; Research under academic supervision; Courses of Higher Education in Art, Music and Dance (AFAM); Advanced Courses on Italian language and culture Courses for Teachers of Italian as second language. It is only possible to apply for three, six, or nine month scholarships.

General application requirements
To be eligible for admission to an Italian university, you need to:

1) Hold a foreign high-school diploma that proves you qualify for university education in your home country.

2) Have Italian or English language proficiency depending on the study programme you plan to attend.

If admission to university-level studies in your home country requires special exams, you must give evidence of passing with the required scores.

University of Milan

The state-run University of Milan offers a wide variety of programs for international students, including three programs entirely in English: economics, informatics, and medical school. They also offer “entry level” programs where students take their first 45 to 60 credits in English and then the remaining courses in Italian, however, the final thesis may be written in English. At the doctoral level, University of Milan offers 21 programs across multiple disciplines.

Additionally, this school offers many extra curricular activities, including their own amateur sports association, orchestra, choir, theater and cultural activities.
