The recent Cyprus Court of Appeal’s decision in Civil Appeal No. 273/2019 merits close attention as it addresses, among other matters, the extent of a guarantor's liability in the context of bank financing, the nature of a continuing guarantee, and the application of the protective provisions of the Protection of Certain Category of Guarantors Law of 2003.

The case concerned a personal guarantee capped at USD 20 Million, with the dispute centered on the obligations of the principal debtor to the .

Extending our warmest congratulations to Andria Panayiotou on her election as Treasurer of the Kyrenia Bar Association, following the conclusion of the Association's Annual General Assembly on 23 September 2026.

During the meeting, the Committee's activities report and financial statements were presented, along with its key pillars: strengthening institutional, scientific and professional presence; actively participating in the bodies of the legal profession; building collaborations across the Kyrenia district; and promoting European and international networking, social contribution and solidarity within the legal community.

The Supreme Court’s recent judgment in Civil Appeal No. 31/2017 is one of the most significant judgments concerning the Republic of Cyprus’ duty to effectively investigate and ascertain the fate of those missing as a result of the 1974 Turkish invasion. Beyond the humanitarian dimension of the case, the judgment, issued in September 2026, redefines the government’s obligations arising from Articles 2 and 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), in light of relevant case law.

The EU Pay Transparency Directive required Member States to transpose its provisions into national law by 7 June 2026. As summer draws to a close, the picture across the EU remains mixed: a handful of Member States have completed transposition, several more have advanced draft legislation, while others have yet to initiate the formal legislative process.
