Confirmation Of Beneficial Owners' Information in the Beneficial Ownership Register System For The Year 2026

All companies incorporated or registered under the Companies Law, Cap. 113, all European Public Limited Companies and all Partnerships, are required to access the Beneficial Ownership Resister system between 1st October 2026 and 31st December 2026, in order to proceed with the confirmation of the details of their Beneficial Owners or Senior Management Officials or to apply due diligence (as applicable in each case):

Regardless of any criminal liability or prosecution of any person, failure to complete the confirmation in the stipulated deadline, the company or other legal entity will be subject to:

• €100 fine for the first day of delay
• €50 for each additional day
• Maximum fine: €5,000

In the case of an organization whose deadline for initial submission (90 days from the date of incorporation or registration) falls within the confirmation period, its information must also be confirmed by 31/12 of the current year.

Markitanis & Vrahimis LLC represented a client before the Nicosia District Court in an application filed by the opposing party seeking to set aside a judgment obtained in our client’s favour in relation to unpaid commercial rents.

The application was based on Part 14.2.(1)(c) of the Civil Procedure Rules, on the ground that the whole of our client’s claim had been satisfied before judgment was entered. By its judgment dated 7 September 2026, the Nicosia District Court dismissed the application, with costs awarded in favour of our client, accepting our position that neither the opposing party’s affidavit nor the exhibits presented before the Court evidenced any payment towards satisfaction of our client’s claim.

Promotion and Protection of Breastfeeding (Amendment) Law of 2025 & Regulations 198/2025

Significant changes to Cyprus' legal framework on breastfeeding came into force, introducing new compliance obligations for employers and persons responsible for certain public places. From 25 June 2026, employers operating in workplaces exceeding 50m² are required to provide a permanent or temporary breastfeeding room for breastfeeding and the expressing and storage of breast milk. Employers must also inform employees of the location of the room and the procedure for its use upon commencement of employment and upon return from maternity leave.

The new legislation also requires designated breastfeeding rooms in a wide range of public places, including airports, ports, shopping malls, higher education institutions, libraries, museums, hotels, hospitals, cinemas, theatres, sports venues, public sector buildings serving the public and banquet halls.

In addition, Regulations 198/2025, which come into force on 4 July 2026, prescribe the minimum specifications and standards that breastfeeding rooms must meet.

Non-compliance may result in fines of up to €7,000, increasing to €8,000 for repeat offences.

With the implementation dates approaching, employers and those responsible for affected public premises should review their facilities and internal policies to ensure timely compliance.

Compliance review by the Department of Labour Relations

The Department of Labour Relations is contacting businesses across Cyprus requesting evidence that employees have been individually informed in writing of their essential employment terms under the Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions Law 25(I)/2023. Employers who receive the request must submit the relevant documentation electronically by 31 July 2026.

Importantly, the Department has clarified that template contracts, employee handbooks, or ERGANI registrations alone will not be sufficient.

Employers who do not respond within the deadline may receive a follow-up letter from the Department requesting compliance. Continued failure to comply may result in criminal proceedings and fines of up to €5,500.
