Arbitration in Practice: The Benefits for Every Business

The Cyprus Arbitration and Mediation Centre (CAMC) held yesterday, 1 December 2025 at 3:00 p.m., a conference under the auspices of the Cyprus Bar Association, the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB), and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).

During the conference, welcoming speeches were delivered by the Director General of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry Mr. Marios Panayides, the President of the Cyprus Bar Association Mr. Michael Vorkas, the President of the Cyprus Arbitration and Mediation Centre Mr. Andreas Michaelides, the Director General of OEB Mr. Michalis Antoniou, and the President of CCCI Mr. Stavros Stavrou.

Members of the CAMC Board of Directors presented the key advantages of arbitration, the role and mission of CAMC, as well as the importance of incorporating arbitration clauses into commercial contracts.

The conference formed part of a broader initiative to promote alternative dispute resolution and to highlight its value as an efficient, cost-effective, and business-friendly method for resolving conflicts.

Commencement of Cooperation between the Cyprus Arbitration and Mediation Centre and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEBE)

The Cyprus Arbitration & Mediation Centre (CAMC) is pleased to announce the commencement of its collaboration with the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI),united by the shared goal of promoting alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods in Cyprus. CAMC aims to offer the business community the opportunity to resolve disputes of a commercial and economic nature effectively, contributing both to the development of the economy and to addressing long-standing challenges related to court delays. The overarching objective is to foster a stable and efficient business environment and to enhance Cyprus’s profile as a prominent international investment hub.

As part of this collaboration, it was agreed that the CCCI will play an active role in the administration and promotion of CAMC of the Cyprus Bar Association. In this context, CCCI will be represented on the CAMC Board of Directors by two of its members. With the addition of the two CCCI representatives, the CAMC Board of Directors now consists of 14 members.

The collaboration was formally launched at a joint event held today, June 4, 2025, at CCCI’s headquarters in Nicosia. The event was attended by members of the Boards of Directors of the participating organizations, legal professionals, and business representatives affiliated with CCCI.

The inclusion of CCI representatives on the CAMC Board underscores the recognition of the Centre as a reliable and dynamically evolving dispute resolution institution. It also highlights the critical importance of advancing arbitration and mediation as effective, business-friendly alternatives to litigation. These ADR mechanisms complement the functioning of every modern legal system and are essential for promoting legal certainty and economic resilience.

During the event, a brief presentation was delivered on the services offered by the Cyprus Arbitration & Mediation Centre, followed by the first joint meeting of the newly composed CAMC Board of Directors

The Cyprus Bar Association (CBA), the CYPRUS ARBITRATION & MEDIATION CENTRE(CAMC), and the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB) - Ομοσπονδία Εργοδοτών & Βιομηχάνων (ΟΕΒ) are pleased to announce the commencement of their collaboration, united by the shared goal of promoting alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods in Cyprus.

This initiative aims to provide the business community with effective tools for the resolution of commercial and economic disputes, thereby contributing to the country’s economic development and addressing long-standing challenges related to court delays. The overarching objective is to foster a stable and efficient business environment and to enhance Cyprus’s profile as a prominent international investment hub.

On 23rd September 2024, the Cyprus Arbitration & Mediation Centre (CAMC) successfully hosted the Cyprus Arbitration & Mediation Forum at the Hilton Hotel Nicosia. This landmark event was held with the valued support of the Cyprus Bar Association and under the auspices of the Law Office and the Ministry of Justice and Public Order. ΣYNANTHΣΗ ΠΔΣ ΜΕ ΤΟΝ ΚΥΠΡΙΑΚΟ ΟΡΓΑΝΙΣΜΟ ΠΡΟΣΕΛΚΥΣΗΣ ΕΠΕΝΔΥΣΕΩΝ (C**A)
Πραγματοποιήθηκε σήμερα συνάντηση του ΠΔΣ και του Κυπριακού Κέντρου Διαιτησίας και Διαμεσολάβησης CAMC με τον Κυπριακό Οργανισμό Προσέλκυσης Επενδύσεων (C**A), η οποία είχε ως κύριο στόχο την επίτευξη συνεργασίας για την προώθηση των εναλλακτικών μεθόδων επίλυσης διαφορών, της διαιτησίας και της διαμεσολάβησης.

Στη συνάντηση παρευρέθηκαν εκ μέρους του C**A ο Πρόεδρος του ΔΣ κ. Ευγένιος Ευγενίου, ο Αντιπρόεδρος κ. Σπύρος Βασιλείου, και η Αναπληρώτρια Γενική Διευθύντρια κα Λία Ριρή, και εκ μέρους του ΠΔΣ ο Πρόεδρος και Μέλη του ΔΣ, η Εκτελεστική Διευθύντρια και ο Πρόεδρος και Μέλη του ΔΣ του CAMC.

O Πρόεδρος του ΠΔΣ αναφέρθηκε επιγραμματικά στο ιστορικό του Κέντρου και στην ανάγκη εκσυγχρονισμού της οικείας νομοθεσίας για την οποία πραγματοποιήθηκε ήδη σχετική συνάντηση με το αρμόδιο Υπουργείο. Στη συνέχεια, ο Πρόεδρος του CAMC κ. Αντρέας Μιχαηλίδης ανέπτυξε τα πλεονεκτήματα της θεσμικής διαιτησίας, τους άξονες δράσης και τις παρεχόμενες υπηρεσίες του Κέντρου και αναφέρθηκε στην ύπαρξη μητρώων Διαιτητών/Διαμεσολαβητών εγνωσμένου κύρους με υψηλά κριτήρια ένταξης, σημειώνοντας την ανάγκη συμπερίληψης στα συμβόλαια ρητρών υπαγωγής σε διαιτησία, προκειμένου οι διαφορές να παραπέμπονται στο CAMC προς επίλυση.

Από την πλευρά του ο Πρόεδρος του C**A υπογράμμισε τη σημασία της προώθησης των συγκεκριμένων εξωδικαστικών μορφών επίλυσης διαφορών και της υπαγωγής υποθέσεων στο CAMC, η αξιοποίηση των οποίων μπορεί να αποτελέσει θετική παράμετρο για την οικονομική ανάπτυξη και την προσέλκυση επενδύσεων στην Κύπρο. Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, τόνισε ότι είναι απαραίτητο όπως προσδοθεί αξιοπιστία στο Κέντρο προκειμένου να εδραιωθούν οι υπηρεσίες του και κατέθεσε ως εισήγηση την πραγματοποίηση επαφών με οργανισμούς, επιχειρηματίες και επενδυτές αρχικά της Κύπρου και ακολούθως του εξωτερικού, με παράλληλη ενέργεια τη διοργάνωση κοινού ενημερωτικού συνέδριου για την ύπαρξη και τις υπηρεσίες του Κέντρου και των εναλλακτικών μεθόδων επίλυσης διαφορών.

Τέλος, ΠΔΣ και C**A συμφώνησαν για τη διατήρηση και περαιτέρω ανάπτυξη τακτικής επικοινωνίας και συνεργασίας για την οργανωμένη προώθηση και εμπέδωση των εν λόγω εναλλακτικών μεθόδων επίλυσης διαφορών, οι οποίες δίνουν ώθηση στην επιχειρηματικότητα και συμβάλλουν στην ανάπτυξη της οικονομίας.

ΣYNANTHΣΗ ΠΔΣ ΜΕ ΤΗΝ ΟΜΟΣΠΟΝΔΙΑ ΕΡΓΟΔΟΤΩΝ ΚΑΙ ΒΙΟΜΗΧΑΝΩΝ (ΟΕΒ)

Με στόχο την ανάπτυξη συνεργειών για την προώθηση των εναλλακτικών μεθόδων επίλυσης διαφορών, της διαιτησίας και της διαμεσολάβησης, πραγματοποιήθηκε σήμερα συνάντηση του ΠΔΣ και του Κυπριακού Κέντρου Διαιτησίας και Διαμεσολάβησης CAMC με την Ομοσπονδία Εργοδοτών και Βιομηχάνων (ΟΕΒ).

Στη συνάντηση παρευρέθηκαν ο Πρόεδρος της ΟΕΒ κ. Αντώνης Αντωνίου, ο Γενικός Διευθυντής κ. Μιχάλης Αντωνίου, το Μέλος της Εκτελεστικής Επιτροπής κ. Ανδρέας Μυλωνάς και η λειτουργός κα Λένα Παναγιώτου, εκ μέρους του ΠΔΣ ο Πρόεδρος και Μέλη του ΔΣ, η Εκτελεστική Διευθύντρια και ο Πρόεδρος και Μέλη του ΔΣ του CAMC.

Αναφερόμενος συνοπτικά στην πορεία του CAMC, ο Πρόεδρος του ΠΔΣ σημείωσε ότι το Κέντρο διαθέτει την απαραίτητη υποδομή για την εξυπηρέτηση των συμβαλλόμενων μερών σε όλα τα στάδια των εν λόγω διαδικασιών. Επεσήμανε επίσης τα συγκριτικά πλεονεκτήματα της διαιτησίας και διαμεσολάβησης για την αποδοτικότερη και ταχύτερη επίλυση διαφορών εμπορικής και/ή επενδυτικής φύσεως. Επιπρόσθετα, αναφέρθηκε στην προσπάθεια που καταβάλλεται για να τεθεί σε ισχύ μία νέα ενοποιημένη νομοθεσία για τη διαιτησία σε συνεργασία με τους αρμόδιους φορείς. Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, τονίστηκε ιδιαιτέρως η σημασία του εγχειρήματος αυτού και αποφασίστηκε ο άμεσος συντονισμός ενεργειών, προκειμένου να υποβληθούν από κοινού προτάσεις.

O Πρόεδρος του CAMC κ. Αντρέας Μιχαηλίδης αναφέρθηκε στο ιστορικό της ίδρυσής του, στους άξονες δράσης και στις παρεχόμενες υπηρεσίες του, εστιάζοντας στην ανάγκη συμπερίληψης στα συμβόλαια ρητρών υπαγωγής σε διαιτησία, προκειμένου να παραπέμπονται οι υποθέσεις στο CAMC.

Από την πλευρά της ΟΕΒ τονίστηκε η σημασία της στοχευμένης ενημέρωσης των μελών της για τα οφέλη και τα πλεονεκτήματα των συγκεκριμένων εξωδικαστικών μορφών επίλυσης διαφορών και του CAMC, η αξιοποίηση των οποίων μπορεί να αποτελέσει θετική παράμετρο για την οικονομική ανάπτυξη και την προσέλκυση επενδύσεων.

Τέλος, ΠΔΣ και ΟΕΒ συμφώνησαν για την περαιτέρω ενίσχυση και ανάπτυξη της μεταξύ τους επικοινωνίας και συνεργασίας για την προώθηση και επίτευξη των πιο πάνω επωφελών στόχων.
