Since 1 July 2025, UK judgments have a treaty route back into the EU, including Cyprus, under the Hague 2019 Judgments Convention. But it only covers proceedings commenced after that date, and the older routes still do most of the work.

Our new 2026 guide covers all of them: Brussels Ia, Hague 2019 and 2005, Cap. 10 registration (and the jurisdiction trap inside it), treaty registration under Law 121(I)/2000, and the common law action — plus which court to apply to and the six-year and twelve-year deadlines.

The District Court of Nicosia has recently issued judgment in Case No. 869/2024, a professional negligence matter arising from an injury sustained during a routine salon haircut.

The Court found that the applicable duty of care had been breached and awarded damages to the claimant.

Connor Legal acted for the claimant in these proceedings.

The case serves as a reminder that professionals across all sectors are held to objective standards of care, including in everyday commercial settings.
