Cyprus has introduced a significant new judicial framework for disputes involving terminated credit facilities secured by primary residences.

The Courts of Justice (Amending) Law 116(I) of 2026 expands the jurisdiction of the District Courts, provides a mechanism for challenging Form "IA" notices, and introduces an expected 12-month timeframe for the determination of proceedings.

The amendments are expected to affect borrowers, guarantors, security providers, creditors, servicers and assignees, particularly in cases involving overcharges, unfair contractual terms and ongoing enforcement measures.

Our Managing Partner Mr Iosif Frangos participated as a panelist at the Cyprus Diaspora Forum, joining the discussion panel ‘Cyprus and Schengen’.

During the discussion, he shared his insights on the legal, economic, and strategic impact that Schengen membership could have on Cyprus, particularly in strengthening the country’s position as an international business and investment hub.

The panel also featured Mr Harris Georgiades, Chairman of Glafkos Clerides Institute, Former Minister of Finance, and Mr Marios Tannousis, CEO of Invest Cyprus - C**A, with the discussion focusing on the opportunities and challenges arising from Cyprus’ prospective accession to the Schengen Area.

We are pleased to support the seminar “New Amendments to the Cyprus Tax Regime” («Οι νέες αλλαγές στο φορολογικό σύστημα Κύπρου»).

The newly implemented Cyprus Tax Regime, effective from 1 January 2026, will be presented to Greek businesses and investment organizations in the 2nd Cyprus Business Presentations Summit in Greece.

Organised by FMW Financial Media Way , the event aims to provide a thorough and practical overview of the recent tax developments in Cyprus, particularly in light of the continued growth of Greek investment activity in the country.

Georgia Thoma is a Partner at Frangos Law with more than 12 years of experience. She advises clients on corporate, commercial, banking and finance, including M&A matters, supporting transactions from structuring and due diligence through to ex*****on.
Her work spans a range of sectors, with experience in real estate and hospitality projects, as well as regulatory and financing matters. She is known for her practical, solutions-driven approach and her ability to guide clients through complex transactions. Georgia has previously also advised and represented clients in various commercial litigation cases including debt recovery and breach of commercial contracts, bringing a pragmatic and risk-aware approach to structuring, contract drafting and deal ex*****on.
Georgia also leads GDPR compliance projects for EU and international organisations and serves as Data Protection Officer for the firm’s group of companies. She regularly provides strategic guidance to clients and stakeholders on complex legal and regulatory issues.
She holds an LLB from King’s College London and is a member of the Cyprus Bar Association.
