Domingo 4 de octubre

En la Asamblea Legislativa la enorme mayoría de diputados y diputadas hemos RECHAZADO y seguimos rechazando con contundencia la propuesta del gobierno al FMI anunciada hace algunos días y hemos dicho NO A MÁS IMPUESTOS como opción de solución a la crisis fiscal. Ni siquiera existe al día de hoy algún proyecto que en la agenda, así lo proponga en concreto. Tampoco conocemos de un plan B, más que ideas que hemos venido generando algunos como alternativa, que evite que el ajuste siga recayendo en los hombros de los ciudadanos y las empresas golpeándoles aún más en medio de la crisis.

Esto no se trata de quien se rinde primero. En las actuales circunstancias perdemos todos. Se trata del presente y del futuro de nuestro país. Del país que queremos heredarle a nuestros hijos y a nuestros nietos. Y para lograrlo es preciso retomar los espacios de DIALOGO que son la ÚNICA forma de construir.

Reconozco el derecho de una ciudadanía molesta, a manifestarse. Yo también lo estoy. Miles la están pasando muy mal, y no encuentran respuesta en un gobierno sin liderazgo ni rumbo. Pero aún en esas circunstancias, miles también la están pulseando por salir apenas adelante.

Los bloqueos no sólo constituyen una violación al derecho al libre tránsito, sino un acto inhumano que atrapa a cientos de personas por horas, mujeres, niños, ancianos y enfermos, afectan la producción y nuestra ya de por sí maltratada economía, enviando además un pésimo mensaje a quienes ven en Costa Rica un destino turístico y de inversión seguro en medio de la pandemia afectando a sectores que apenas ven señales de reactivación.

Hago un llamado respetuoso a quienes defienden esta forma de manifestarse para levantarlos de inmediato, diferenciándose de aquellos otros a quienes interesa aprovechar las circunstancias con el único propósito de reivindicar añejos protagonismos y sembrar caos y violencia. Los miembros de nuestra fuerza pública son compatriotas también, gente humilde y sencilla con familias angustiadas por la situación. No tienen bando, deben cumplir con su deber.

Y al Señor Presidente hago un llamado vehemente para que ejerza el liderazgo que la nación espera de él, convocando de inmediato y con humildad, a un gran DIÁLOGO NACIONAL que nos permita, con participación de todos los sectores, enfrentar los enormes retos que tenemos por delante para acordar soluciones en paz y en el marco de nuestras instituciones democráticas.

Desde la Asamblea Legislativa estamos en total disposición de ser parte de ese diálogo comprometidos con el momento histórico que vive el país que exige sensatez, tolerancia, prudencia y solidaridad, y mucha más VALENTÍA para sentarnos a ponernos de acuerdo, que para seguir enfrentándonos en una escalada de violencia verbal y física sin fin.

Que Dios nos ilumine para salir adelante y para tomar las mejores decisiones juntos para nuestro país y para todas y todos quienes compartimos la bendición de haber nacido y convivir en esta hermosa tierra!

Travel Alert: U.S. Embassy San Jose (22 April 2020)

Event: IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING REPATRIATION FLIGHTS TO THE UNITED STATES. PLEASE READ ENTIRE MESSAGE CAREFULLY.



**Please note Costa Rica's Minister of Health has announced that current border restrictions prohibiting foreigners from entering Costa Rica have been extended until May 15. Tourists who entered Costa Rica after December 17 have also been granted an extension of stay until July 17.



The U.S. Embassy in San Jose and the U.S. State Department have coordinated with United Airlines to offer an additional commercial flight from Juan Santamaria Airport (SJO) in San Jose, Costa Rica to Houston, Texas (IAH) on Monday, April 27. The flight will depart SJO at 12:00 pm and arrive at IAH at 4:46 pm. This flight is open to public booking; you are encouraged to book ASAP as seats are limited. Please visit www.united.com for further information regarding availability.



Payment and booking will be done directly with United Airlines at www.united.com. The cost of the flight will be based on the passenger’s final destination. This price is set by United Airlines. Passengers can purchase a one-way ticket or round trip.



Passengers wishing to book connecting flights from Houston to other destinations in the United States or beyond should do so independently through United or other airlines. The U.S. Embassy is not able to assist with arranging onward travel from Houston. Policies regarding luggage allowances and seating arrangements will be managed by United Airlines. For additional questions regarding this flight or airline requirements, please contact United Airlines at www.united.com.



Passengers traveling with pets and Emotional Support or Service Animals will need to consult with United Airlines regarding additional fees and space availability. United Airlines does not allow pets to travel as cargo. Proper documentation and veterinary certificates will be required. Find more details when making your booking or by visiting this link. Health regulations for boarding these flights will be managed according to Costa Rican Ministry of Health guidelines. At this time that includes medical personnel monitoring passenger lines for people with COVID 19 symptoms, and asking passengers with symptoms to self-identify.



Health regulations for arrival at Houston’s IAH airport are managed by the airport and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) under guidance from CDC and state health officials. At this time there are no specific measures in place at IAH. Check with the airport and CBP websites for updates at https://www.fly2houston.com/iah/overview/ and https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/coronavirus.



All passengers will be subject to Costa Rica immigration and customs laws and Airline policies. The U.S. Embassy is not able to intervene if people are stopped for violations or do not meet airline regulations.



U.S. Citizens must have valid passports to enter the United States. If you do not have a valid U.S. passport, please email [email protected] immediately to apply for an Emergency Passport.



Foreign national passengers must possess an official travel document from their country of nationality and permission to approach a United States port of entry such as a legal permanent resident card, U.S. visa, or Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) pre-approval.
