BEATRIZ IS SEARCHING FOR HER SON
📍 Bogotá, Cundinamarca, Colombia
On December 2, 1989, when I was 13 years old, I gave birth to a baby boy at HOSPITAL DE LA HORTÚA (now known as Hospital San Juan de Dios) in Bogotá.
My son’s father was MIGUEL ANTÓNIO LEÓN BERMÚDEZ (now deceased), who was 45 years old at the time.
After giving birth, I woke up around 9:00 a.m. from general anesthesia. When I asked about my baby, a nurse told me he was fine, that he was a boy, but that he was very small and therefore kept in an incubator. She explained that once I fully regained feeling in my legs, they would take me to see him.
Minutes later, when the nurse left the room, a social worker came in and told me that my baby had died. Shortly afterward, my son’s father entered the room to take me out of the hospital, saying I had already been discharged. However, the nurse said it was not possible to discharge me because I had not yet fully recovered from the anesthesia, and she expressed that she did not understand how my baby could have died.
I left the hospital without my son. The father also declared him dead and told me he had baptized him with the name JUAN MANUEL, since it was a hospital attended by priests and nuns.
Years later, someone contacted me and told me that my son was alive and that I could verify this at the hospital. I went there and was given a document stating “live birth.” In addition, my medical records indicate that I left the hospital with the baby.
When I confronted the father of my son, he lowered his head and did not respond.
From the bottom of my heart, I feel that my son is alive somewhere, and I long to find him.
