Promoting National Security Awareness – Visit to the National Security Education Exhibition

As part of our ongoing commitment to civic responsibility and staying informed on matters of national importance, our team at C&C Lawyers&Notaries visited the National Security Education Exhibition on 8 May.

Held at the Complex of Commerce and Trade Co-operation Platform for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, this year’s exhibition provided a comprehensive overview of the security advances achieved to date. The exhibition served as an important reminder of the role each of us plays in safeguarding the stability and security of our society.

At C&C, we believe that understanding the broader legal and security landscape is essential not only for our professional practice but also for contributing meaningfully to the community we serve. By engaging with initiatives such as the National Security Education Exhibition, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering awareness, responsability and resilience in society.

We are pleased to share that our founding partner, Dr. Rui Cunha, participated in two key events held in Madrid, Spain 🇪🇸, as part of the Macao SAR Government‘s strategic efforts to promote Macao to the European market.

📍 On 21 April, Dr. Cunha attended the “Experience Macao Roadshow in Madrid” organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (DST), marking the first large‑scale promotional campaign by the Macao SAR Government in Spain. With four themed areas and nearly 20 interactive stands, the five‑day event held at Puente del Rey square transformed the heart of Madrid into an immersive gateway to Macao‘s culture, tourism, and commerce. The roadshow concluded with a “Macao Night” ceremony on 21 April, graced by the Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, Sam Hou Fai, UN Tourism Secretary‑General Shaikha Al Nuwais, Chinese Ambassador to Spain Yao Jing, and other distinguished guests.

📍 On 22 April, Dr. Cunha joined a cocktail reception following the “Macao‑Spain Economic and Commercial Co‑operation Promotion Seminar”, the first‑ever event of its kind in Spain, organised by IPIM and the Chamber of Commerce of Spain. The seminar attracted approximately 170 government and business representatives from mainland China, Spain, Macao, and Hengqin.

These initiatives closely align with C&C's longstanding commitment as a strategic partner in promoting Macau internationally. They reflect the broader mission we share: fostering cross‑border cooperation and strengthening Macau’s role as a bridge between China and Portuguese‑ and Spanish‑speaking markets.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Macao Government Tourism Office, IPIM, and all organising partners for orchestrating these impactful initiatives aimed at expanding Macau‘s global outreach.

👏👏 We are pleased to share that our senior partner Nuno Sardinha da Mata was a distinguished speaker at the “Law and Business Integration to Support Chinese Enterprises Going Global – A Global Shipping Perspective” exchange meeting held in Qingdao on 1 April.

Organised by the Qingdao Lawyers Association, the event brought together distinguished experts from universities in Qingdao, industry associations, and foreign-related legal service institutions to discuss the integration of legal expertise and business strategy in the context of global shipping.

Nuno spoke on cross-border maritime investment legal issues, focusing on investment routes passing through Macau to Portuguese‑speaking countries and Hengqin. In his intervention, he shared practical legal insights and risk prevention strategies, underscoring Macau’s strategic role in facilitating investment flows between China and Portuguese‑speaking jurisdictions.

On 14 March, we had the pleasure of welcoming 17 secondary school students from the “Programa de Iniciação de Aprendizagem da Língua Portuguesa” organised by the Centre of Languages of the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) to our firm.

It was a truly rewarding experience to share what we do at C&C Lawyers&Notaries and introduce our practice areas. We also took the opportunity to exchange thoughts on learning Portuguese and the journey of building a career in the legal profession.📚💬

On Monday, we had the privilege of co-hosting the Cybercrime and Security Seminar alongside our colleagues from Lockton, where we explored the evolving digital threat landscape and how businesses can proactively protect themselves.

A huge thank you to Melody Qian and Freddie Lai, for their invaluable insights and expertise throughout the presentation.

The joint contributions from Lockton and C&C's Nuno Sardinha da Mata, Senior Partner, and Paulo Rowett, Legal Counsel, shed light on:

- The legal framework surrounding cybercrime
- The various types of cyber threats and the nature of attacks
- Cybersecurity policies and insurance solutions to mitigate risks
- Why SMEs must prioritize cybersecurity and seek Cybersecurity Counsel to safeguard their operations

We appreciate everyone who joined us in person and online. It was great engaging with such an attentive and insightful audience. Let’s continue raising awareness and working together to strengthen our cyber resilience.

Senior partner Alvaro Rodrigues, a member of the Macau Lawyers Association Board of Directors, and associate lawyer Miguel Evaristo, a member of the Young Lawyers Committee, participated in the recent exchange and cooperation visit organised by the Macau Lawyers Association.

The programme included visits to the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), meetings with the Shenzhen Justice Department and the Shenzhen Bar Association, and discussions with the Dongguan Bar Association, the Dongguan Arbitration Commission, and the Huizhou Department of Justice and Bar Association.

We value these opportunities, which advance the effort to strengthen legal ties and enhance cooperation between Macau and key cities in Guangdong province. They were also an excellent opportunity to foster professional relationships and explore new avenues for legal collaboration.
