What if the biggest mistake in your PR journey is waiting until you're eligible?
Your immigration options aren't determined by your current profile alone. The decisions you make today could influence what you're eligible for in the future.
A stronger language score, additional qualifying experience, or an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) may open up new possibilities.
But not every improvement will have the same impact on your immigration strategy.
The key is knowing what to work on before you need to apply.
Don't wait until you've met every requirement to start planning.

You worked in Canada and for a foreign company at the same time. Can both count toward PR?
Possibly. But overlapping work experience doesn't automatically mean double the experience.
IRCC considers where you physically worked, whether your experience meets program requirements, and how it qualifies for CRS points.
Important: Working remotely from Canada for a foreign employer doesn't automatically count as foreign work experience.
Before submitting your Express Entry profile, make sure your work history is assessed correctly.

You qualify for Express Entry. So why are you still waiting for an invitation?
Meeting the eligibility requirements allows you to enter the Express Entry pool. But it doesn't guarantee an ITA.
IRCC conducts different types of invitation rounds, and the criteria can vary.
For example, a candidate with a lower CRS score may receive an invitation through a category-based draw while someone with a higher score remains in the pool.
Your immigration strategy shouldn't end with meeting the minimum requirements.
Follow Crossley Law for practical insights into Express Entry, CRS scores and Canadian permanent residence.

DID YOU CHANGE JOBS WHILE YOUR PR APPLICATION WAS STILL PROCESSING?
Changing employers doesn’t automatically mean that the work experience you already earned stops counting.
But that is only one part of the picture.
The impact of a job change depends on how employment fits into your particular PR application. Your eligibility, the information you submitted, a provincial nomination and other elements of the file may all need to be considered.
Your temporary status is a separate issue as well.
A PR application being in process does not, by itself, tell you whether you are authorized to work for a new employer.
So after changing jobs, look at both files together: your permanent residence application and your current authorization to work in Canada.

Your CRS score increased. So why are you still waiting for an invitation?
Many Express Entry candidates focus on one goal: getting more points.
But here's what matters: IRCC doesn't select candidates based on CRS scores alone.
Different invitation rounds have different eligibility requirements. A candidate with a lower score may receive an ITA through a category-based draw while someone with a higher score remains in the pool.
That's why improving your CRS score is only one part of your immigration strategy.
The real question isn't just how many points you have — it's which invitation rounds you're eligible for.
Follow Crossley Law to better understand Express Entry, CRS scores, and your potential pathways to PR.

YOU GOT PROMOTED. DOES YOUR NEW ROLE STILL FIT THE IMMIGRATION STRATEGY YOU STARTED WITH?
A promotion doesn’t necessarily mean your NOC changes.
But it’s worth checking whether your actual work changed with your title.
Maybe you moved into management. Maybe your responsibilities expanded. Or maybe the title changed while your core duties remained largely the same.
That distinction matters because IRCC looks at the work you actually performed when assessing whether your experience matches an NOC.
And if your immigration strategy relies on a particular occupation, pathway or period of qualifying work experience, a change in duties may affect how that experience should be documented and assessed.
Your promotion is therefore a useful point to review the assumptions behind the immigration plan you started with.

AN IRCC DOCUMENT REQUEST ISN’T JUST ANOTHER ITEM ON YOUR TO-DO LIST.
Before responding, it’s important to understand what the officer is trying to clarify and how your response fits with the rest of your immigration history.
A strong response isn’t about sending as much information as possible. It’s about providing what was requested while keeping the information across your file clear and consistent.
With 20+ years of immigration experience, Crossley Law works with complex cases where understanding the full picture matters.

YOU’VE BUILT TWO YEARS OF CANADIAN WORK EXPERIENCE. WHAT IS IT ACTUALLY DOING FOR YOUR PR STRATEGY?
Two years of qualifying Canadian work experience can affect more than one part of an Express Entry profile.
It may increase your CRS points. It can interact with education or foreign work experience through skill-transferability factors. And depending on your occupation and circumstances, it may also matter when looking at current Express Entry categories.
But before using those two years as the foundation of a PR strategy, you need to know how much of that experience actually qualifies.
Your NOC, duties, authorization to work and the period in which the experience was gained can all matter.
So instead of looking only at how long you’ve worked in Canada, look at where that experience actually fits within your immigration profile.
