Hey FLF'ers!

Our feminist friends at the Centre for Feminist Legal Studies at Allard Law UBC have extended an invitation to their trivia night on Friday, March 12th from 7-8:30pm Winnipeg time.

You can register as a team (4-5 people), or as an individual. This is a great opportunity to get to know other feminist law students from across the country.

Hope you can make it!

Happy Friday Robson!

We are excited to share that the Feminist Legal Forum will be once again running Robson Hall's version of the campaign (March 1-7)- virtually this year! Our theme is Making Space - so start thinking of some great messages and quotations to share that fit this theme.

There are a few important changes that I want to note:

1) Due to covid restrictions and us not being allowed on campus, we will be asking everyone to contribute their own photos this year - you can have your photographer roommate snap your pic, or take one selfie style.

2) We will be running the campaign for a full week to make sure everyone has a chance to participate! We will be accepting submissions from March 1-7th.

3) To encourage participation (we know there is a lot on your plates already), WE HAVE PRIZES! Your friendly neighbourhood FLF will be contributing a grand prize, and our friends at Thomson Reuters have kindly donated additional prizes. All you have to do to win is participate! Everyone who submits a photo & message will be entered to win, and a random draw will take place on March 8th.

Be sure to check your UMANITOBA EMAIL for additional information, including tips & rules for the campaign and access to the submission document.

Any questions can be directed to this account, or to our Chair Allison Kilgour.

Hello new & returning FLF members!

With the new school year starting, we wanted to give you a run-down of some key information:

1) Events! We are in the middle of planning our events for the upcoming year and we can't wait to share them with you. Here's a bit of a sneak peek of things in the works:

- Practitioners Panel: This event will feature lawyers from different practices and with varying years of experience. This is a great opportunity to ask questions that you've wanted the answer to when it comes to entering the legal profession, particularly as a non-male identifying person. Stay tuned for more details on this over the next few weeks!

- Speaker Series: We are working on setting up a variety of speaker events to cover topics that are relevant and pressing to women, non-binary folks, and other community groups. These topics may range anywhere from what it's like to work in a small practice vs a big-law firm, to how to maneuver parenting while trying to advance your career. We are still working on finalizing our topics, so if there is anything that you would be interested in hearing about, let us know!

- Photo Campaign: This event will be taking place in the winter semester and we are working to ensure we can still host the campaign even if we are still living in this virtual world (hello selfies!). Check out photos from previous year's campaigns on our page!

2) We are looking for a passionate 1L to join our executive team as the 1L Representative! The 1L rep serves as a liaison between the FLF and the class of 2023, ensuring their interests are heard. The 1L rep also assists the Chair in liaising with other campus feminist groups, such as UMSU's Womyn's Centre, Justice for Women, and more. You should expect to attend approximately 2 planning meetings each semester, and lend a hand on projects where help is needed.

If this sounds like something you're interested in, please email us your answers ([email protected]) to the following questions:
a) Why do you want to be involved with the FLF?
b) Why do you think you are a good choice for the 1L Rep position, and what experience do you have that relates to the role and to the work that the FLF does?

The deadline for applications is October 1st at 11:59pm.

3) Stay in touch with us! We will post updates regularly on this page, but we will also send out information via email! If you want to make sure you don't miss out on anything, or if you want primary access to limited-space events, sign up to be on our mailing list: https://forms.gle/SCk9tmsp1xKu2NZC7

That's all for now. Be sure to reach out to us with any questions, concerns, or ideas! :)

With warmth & solidarity,

Your FLF team - Allison Kilgour, Alexis Bailey, Jill Klassen, Taylor Antonchuk, Madison Parker & Alexis Alevisos
